This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.

What You'll Do:

The addition of this role is to address the tremendous growth of Broadband and Optical Transport on AT&T Fiber services, including the advancement of innovative Broadband and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solutions. We seek candidates with the desire to work hands-on in the lab with high performance network equipment to develop concepts, evaluate potential solutions, and validate performance, compliance, and capabilities of vendor equipment and network designs. Relevant technologies include, but are not limited to, Ethernet and TCP/IP networking (L2/L3), PON (Passive Optical Networks), Network Security, and Optical Transport (Dark Fiber, DWDM). This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact and drive change in Broadband networking. You will work closely with other technical staff members, developing and executing test plans on high performance network equipment. You will partner and coordinate with clients, partners, and vendors supplying solutions for AT&T validation. The role is ideal for individuals with the motivation to identify and solve complex technical problems.

  • Conduct hands-on network validation and certification testing of complex optical network components and systems.
  • Execute test plans and provide data-based conclusions and results. Develop, expand, and improve existing test plans.
  • Conduct hands-on proof-of-concept testing and design validation/innovation of Layer 1/2/3 network designs.
  • Participate in or lead project meetings to report progress, discuss issues and resolutions, and ensure solution requirements are met.

What You’ll Bring:

Prior hands-on experience gained through employment, internship, projects, study, or independent research will be viewed as an asset.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Layer 1/2/3+ Networking:
    • Designing and implementing complex, multi-vendor TCP/IP networks, diagnosing, documenting, and resolving issues.
    • Familiarity with issues impacting throughput and QoS. Familiarity with Ethernet over fiber and copper media. Familiarity with DWDM.
    • Familiarity with diagnosis and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, iperf, etc.
    • Strong understanding of network security principles, firewalls, and common vulnerabilities.

  • Tools and Automation:
    • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Python, shell script, Javascript, Powershell, etc.
    • Familiarity with one or more virtualization/cloud technologies and platforms such as VMware, KVM, Docker, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
       
  • Task/Project Management and Communication:
    • Capable of proficient and fluent verbal and written communication with peers, partners, and vendors.
    • Able to interpret and produce clear and concise documentation of test plans, results, bugs and troubleshooting steps, etc.
    • Ability to manage and deliver upon demands of multiple, simultaneous tasks in a team environment.

What You’ll Need:

  • Education: (Required)
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Certifications: (Desired, one of the following)
    • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
    • Cisco CCNA or higher
    • Palo Alto PCCSA or higher
    • Similar entry-level network/security certifications

Our Sr Specialist Member of Technical Staff, earns between $128,100-$192,100 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
