Our Workday Platform Security team is at the forefront of revolutionizing how we manage and secure data for both Workday services and our global customer base. We are looking for an experienced senior software developer with an interest in practical cryptography to join us in building the most secure services on premises and in Hybrid Cloud environments.
You should have experience designing scalable, customer-centric systems and a passion for delivering secure software solutions. Along with senior leaders, principal engineers, and security specialists you will solve challenges of growing and operating a globally distributed cryptographic security service. This role’s charter is to develop, build, deploy, and support platform security specific solutions and infrastructure to help protect Workday customers data.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work in a production focused organization. You will be working in a rapidly moving environment where resilience and scalability are key non-functional requirements. This will require you to work effectively within your own team but also to coordinate with others in teams both locally and in other timezones.
About You
Basic Qualification
10+ years of progressive experience in software development engineering, architecting, and delivering highly scalable, robust, and efficient distributed software systems.
Deep expertise in developing high-performance applications using Java and/or Scala, with significant, hands-on experience leveraging Public Cloud platforms (specifically AWS and/or GCP) for deployment, scaling, and operational excellence.
Proven capacity for end-to-end ownership of complex software components—from initial design and development through to successful delivery and deployment, consistently demonstrating effective cross-functional team collaboration.
Exceptional problem-solving skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to effectively diagnose, mitigate, and resolve critical production incidents during on-call rotation.
Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and a proven track record of leading team collaboration, driving technical consensus, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience in building large-scale, enterprise-level solutions.
Other Qualification
Familiarity with cryptographic/encryption technologies & procedures (AES, RSA, Hash, FIPS, etc) and systems like Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Certificate Authority (CA), Key Management Systems (KMS) or Hardware Security Modules (HSM).
Experience with SaaS architecture.
