A Little About Us

We are an industry-leading Direct-to-Consumer and Ad Tech organization providing advertisers and publishers one-stop access to Yahoo’s trusted 1P data, premium inventory, innovative ad formats, and machine learning at global scale.

The Consumer Monetization team’s charter is to find, evaluate, build, and scale new monetization engines, measurement systems, internal campaign tools, and ad products across Yahoo’s ecosystem—including Yahoo Homepage, Sports, Finance, News, and AOL.

We are building a new privacy-first, cross-channel measurement platform that uses Yahoo 1P data to deliver attribution, lift, incremental ROI, and actionable insights for advertisers and internal teams. This role is central to building the backend services that enable this platform.

A Lot About You

As a Senior Software Development Engineer (Backend/API) on the Measurement Track, you will design and implement the backend microservices, APIs, and orchestration systems that power Yahoo’s next-generation measurement offering. You will build scalable, reliable, and secure services that unify signals from multiple platforms, enable rule and measurement configuration, integrate with privacy-safe environments, and expose measurement insights through APIs and internal tools.

You enjoy building distributed backend systems, designing clean service abstractions, and solving challenges across data integrity, performance, and privacy. You will work closely with data engineers, ML engineers, PMs, and measurement teams to bring new measurement capabilities from concept to production.

Your Day

  • Design and develop backend microservices that power Yahoo’s measurement platform, including configuration services, attribution engines, rule orchestration, and reporting APIs.

  • Build REST and gRPC APIs enabling internal teams, advertiser-facing tools, and partner integrations.

  • Implement scalable workflows for identity joining, measurement eligibility checks, event processing, and attribution computation.

  • Integrate backend systems with data pipelines, clean rooms, and external measurement partners.

  • Build secure, privacy-first service architectures that protect and govern access to Yahoo 1P data.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define service interfaces, SLAs, API contracts, and operational requirements.

  • Optimize services for performance, reliability, and low-latency processing at large scale.

  • Develop monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability frameworks for all measurement services.

  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical planning across the Monetization Platform organization.

  • Lead investigations into production and data-flow issues, ensuring high-quality and reliable measurement outcomes.

Qualifications

  • BS with 10+ years industry experience, or MS with 7+ years, ideally in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and backend architecture.

  • Proficiency in Java and Go (primary languages for this role).

  • Experience developing high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs.

  • Experience building microservices architectures using frameworks such as gRPC, REST, Spring Boot, or Go-based service stacks.

  • Strong experience with distributed systems, service orchestration, workflow engines, and event-driven systems.

  • Experience integrating backend services with big-data or streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Flink, Dataflow).

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, BigTable, Cassandra).

  • Familiarity with Cloud environments (GCP preferred) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).

  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving, and ability to lead technical initiatives end-to-end.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in ad tech, measurement systems, attribution models, or experimentation frameworks.

  • Experience with privacy-preserving systems, identity frameworks, or clean room integrations.

  • Familiarity with large-scale analytics systems and ML/feature-serving platforms.

  • Experience with API governance, service mesh, observability stacks, and reliability engineering.
