Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation organization. This role is located in Oklahoma City and Tinker Air Force Base, OK .

As a member of the Engineering Design Center and Lab Operations, you will be an integral part of the design team, developing custom testing solutions and specialized support equipment for the B-2 Stealth Bomber and other platforms.  The ideal candidate will work as a collaborative member of a multi-discipline engineering team, responsible for the development and integration of mechanical designs in a laboratory environment, with a focus on first-time quality and engineering rigor.

Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of 3D CAD models, detail part, assembly and integration drawings
  • Coordination and liaison of mechanical engineering designs through the procurement and manufacturing process

  • Coordination and liaison of electrical design integration and assembly

  • Lead and coordinate integration of hardware in a laboratory environment

  • Development of documentation in support of designs and product lifecycle management

  • Support troubleshooting and system verification in a lab setting

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related professional/military experience.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business need.

  • Must have experience developing mechanical designs using tools such as CATIA V5, SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, or similar design software tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field

  • Professional experience in aerospace and defense.

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Active Program access

  • Mechanical design experience using CATIA V5

  • Experience with PLM systems

  • Experience in Additive Manufacturing or 3D print design and technologies

  • Hardware integration experience in a laboratory environment

  • Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic environment with competing priorities

Primary Level Salary Range: $105,800.00 - $158,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
