Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Laser Sensing System (LSS) Responsible Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
Candidate must demonstrate technical understanding in the field of Lasers/Optics as well as knowledge of other related disciplines. The candidate must have effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely present technical information. The RE will frequently collaborate with technical leadership on system requirements generation and associated flow down, subsystem design/analysis, and subsystem performance verification including lab and range testing. The LSS RE reports to the Kill Chain IPT Lead at the Director Level.
Will be responsible for one or more of the following:
Manage all aspects of the LSS System and become intimately familiar with the systems hardware software, and integration.
Manage the supplier management team (SMT) and work directly with the hardware suppliers and subcontracts.
Associated CAM duties.
Support all stages of the aircraft system life cycle activity such as preliminary design studies, primary design analysis, and integrated system design analysis.
Support hardware integration, airworthiness activity, and testing of the subsystem.
Attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
Basic Qualifications:
Sr. Principal Laser Sensing System (LSS) Responsible Engineer (T04):
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 6 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Ability to obtain and maintain active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SAP) required to start.
Knowledge of Laser and Optical principles
Knowledge/experience in Systems Engineering
Effectively demonstrate understanding of fundamental Laser/Optical Sensing principles

Outstanding problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and independently
Demonstrated history of personnel development and successful team engagement
Experience engaging directly with internal and external technical and programmatic representatives
