Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a candidate to join our diverse team of engineers, system administrators, and operators as a Principal Cyber Systems Engineer or Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer professional in Chantilly, VA. The successful candidate will be expected to monitor, maintain, and provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support of a mission critical network infrastructure, collect data for analysis, perform network upgrades, and be able to produce documentation and diagrams of the work they perform. The candidate must be able to lead the way to maintain and develop creative solutions to complex problems.
Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain Windows and Linux server environments
Perform monthly patching, vulnerability remediation, and maintenance activities
Support and maintain existing enterprise infrastructure, including virtualization, logging, authentication, and security systems
Monitor system health, performance, and security events to ensure operational availability
Provide Tier 2 / Tier 3 support for operators and junior administrators
Troubleshoot complex issues across systems, network, security, and application layers
Maintain Active Directory, account provisioning, group policy, DNS, certificates, and access controls
Support authentication services including RADIUS and MFA platforms
Maintain enterprise logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions such as Elastic Stack
Support virtual infrastructure administration using VMware vSphere
Develop and update SOPs, technical documentation, and implementation procedures
Prepare technical change documentation for Change Control Board (CCB) review
Support system hardening, compliance, and vulnerability scanning using tools such as Nessus and Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator
Assist the ISSM with system testing, use case validation, and security compliance efforts
Evaluate and implement new technical solutions in response to emerging mission or cybersecurity requirements (for example, Zero Trust Architecture initiatives)
Support limited travel (5–10%) for system installs, upgrades, or remote site support
Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer Basic Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI is required to start; with willingness to receive a polygraph
8 Years with Bachelor’s Degree; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD; OR 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Security+ certification required
5+ years of experience administering Windows and Linux enterprise environments with CLI experience
Experience with Active Directory, DNS, certificates, and account management
Experience performing patching, maintenance, and vulnerability remediation
Experience supporting enterprise virtualization environments such as VMware vSphere
Experience with independent troubleshooting skills across systems and networking
Experience writing SOPs and technical implementation documentation
Ability to support 24/7 operational environments and escalation support
Willingness to travel 5–10%
Preferred Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
Experience with Elastic Stack / enterprise logging platforms
Experience with MFA and RADIUS
Experience with Wireshark packet analysis
Experience with Nessus Security Center
Experience with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator / HBSS
Experience implementing new enterprise capabilities driven by cybersecurity or mission requirements
Experience supporting Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) initiatives

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
