Sr Prin Database Architect

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

As well as performing day-to day DBA support tasks and on-call duties, the Senior Principal Database Architect demonstrates mastery-level troubleshooting skills able to quickly solve the most complex production issues.

Must be able to quickly learn and onboard emerging database technologies in the Cloud such as Postgres/Aurora, Snowflake, Document DB, and develop the same level of standards with respect to DBA backup & recovery, maintenance, monitoring, and high-availability.

Must be able to manage vendor escalations and high severity incident requests. They are responsible for keeping the overall DBMS technology stack current, designing database deployment models that meet application RPO and RTO objectives, evaluating new technologies as needed including Cloud-based solutions, providing technical leadership to all DBA’s on the team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the administration, maintenance and availability our most complex enterprise Production server environments including cluster, mirror and replication.
  • Ensures that database deployment models meet application availability, backup & recovery SLAs, and review RPO and RTO with stakeholders.
  • Ensures data security. Define, create, develop, and implement database access control policies and procedures to comply with SOX and HIPAA requirements. Advanced knowledge of data encryption solutions.
  • Resolves difficult/complex technical issues, present solution to management and stakeholders, as necessary.
  • Oversees large complex projects, designing technical solutions, managing multiple DBA tasks through implementation.
  • Manages technical tasks of other DBA’s on the team and well as mentor them.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with application development and infrastructure teams.
  • Implements code reviews with development teams and mentor for database best practices.
  • Works with Data Architect on long term strategy to ensure integrated database systems.
  • Responsible for capacity planning, working closely with infrastructure teams as needed.
  • Monitors database servers and tune to ensure optimum performance.
  • Coordinates and leads technical PM’s, developers, and other teams to represent database requirements.
  • Triages/tracks outstanding issues, providing solutions to resolve defects and issues.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for implementation of data and database changes.
  • Develops and adheres to common database standards and procedures within a production operations unit. Maintains documentation related to database platforms, guidelines, methods and standards.
  • Interacts with business users verifying or helping to verify data integrity.
  • Develops strong relationships across projects to proactively anticipate emerging data needs and further leverage existing informational resources.
  • Documents and improves existing processes related to operations and daily work.
  • Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

Manages technical tasks of other DBA’s on the team.

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 15 years’ related experience with a Bachelors degree; or a Masters degree with 10 years’ experience; or a PhD with 8 years’ experience; or equivalent directly related work experience.
    • Must be able to quickly learn and onboard emerging database technologies in the Cloud such as Postgres   Aurora, Snowflake, Document DB.
  • Mastery-level ability – database monitoring and performance tools.
  • Mastery-level knowledge of database internals and performance tuning skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex database issues, make recommendations to senior management.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend complex technical documents.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as needed and limited overnight travel will be required as needed.

The rate of pay for this position will depend on the successful candidate’s work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills, and competencies.

Annual Rate: $137,000.00 - $229,000.00
