About the Role

We’re looking for a Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and Analytical with strong research, financial analysis, and management skills to join our team as Senior Payroll Tax Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical part in engineering top-notch products and services in a unique industry and at a rapidly growing organization. As a member of the People Services team, the Senior Payroll Tax Specialist will partner with the Payroll team and other cross-functional People Services teams to drive compliance with all federal, state, and local employment tax legislation. This role is responsible for the organization’s U.S. employer and employee tax administration including tax withholdings, reconciliations, remittances, and compliance.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as subject matter expert for employment tax management
  • Research complex employment tax issues/requests and provide solutions to minimize company risk and improve business practices
  • Partner with Payroll, Finance, Corporate Tax, and Internal Audit teams to develop and monitor internal controls, compliance, tax filings and government reporting
  • Lead timely analysis for monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll tax returns and payment funding for federal, state, and local tax withholding, social security taxes, and state unemployment taxes
  • Manage W-2 and W-2C compliance, reconciliation, and filing
  • Partner with payroll provider to manage and monitor agency notices and SUI rates
  • Perform internal payroll audits to ensure accurate employee worked-in and lived-in tax setup
  • Manage payroll general ledger reporting and partner with Finance to maintain mapping of accounts
  • Partner with the Payroll team to manage full-cycle U.S. Payroll and Benefits processing
  • Preparation, processing, and maintenance of regular, special, and supplemental payrolls to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of payroll or closely related experience required
  • Experience working and supporting payroll in multiple U.S. states
  • Experience with both Canada and U.S. payrolls
  • Experience processing payroll preferably with a 3rd party software system (ADP and Workday)
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: College/University degree preferred
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
  • Analytical with strong research, financial analysis, and management skills
  • Experience working and supporting payroll in multiple U.S. states
  • Experience with both Canada and U.S. payrolls

Location: Toronto Office

The hiring base salary range for this position is $75,500-103,800 CAD annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. Please note that the disclosed salary range is solely for candidates hired to perform work within this geographic location. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
