Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for a Painter/Coating Technician to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This is a full time position located in Annapolis, MD. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail, and top focus on quality.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares for Coating by masking, sanding, prepping sections and components

  • Mixes coatings and can identify proper spraying consistency

  • Must be able to perform detail touch ups

  • Coordinates processes for painting production parts

  • Able to work with various chemicals to complete scope of work

  • Able to obtain half & full face respirator certification

  • Daily usage of manufacturing shop controls and systems

  • Use various measuring equipment such as scales, calipers, and other measuring devices

  • Accurately process and document according to drawing and specification

  • Mix a variety of chromate and non-chromated primers and topcoats

  • Manage hazardous materials safely and in accordance with state and federal regulations

  • Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

  • Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition and notify supervision when painting materials are depleted. Clean equipment thoroughly after each use by flushing lines, guns, tips and tanks.

  • Follow OSHA safety standards and job-site procedures

  • Maintain clean and safe work environment

  • Use of appropriate PPE when working on the shop floor

  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement activities in production methods, equipment performance and team effectiveness

Basic Qualifications for the Painter/Coater Technician:

  • High school Diploma and Minimum of 4 years’ painting/surface prep/coating experience in an aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain program access.

  • US Citizenship

  • Ability to work a rotating shift as needed.

  • Ability to abrasive blast in cabinet and maintain equipment.

  • Knowledge of reading and following detailed instructions and routers.

Physical Qualifications for the Painter/Coater Technician:

  • Must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overhead.

  • Must be able to access small confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment.

  • The ability to pass Special Medical/Respiratory Exam.

Preferred Qualifications for the Painter/Coater Technician:

  • High school Diploma and Minimum of 6 years’ painting/surface prep/coating experience in an aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environment.

  • Active/Current DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain program access.

  • Working knowledge of reading and understanding technical drawings, to include GD&T.

  • Experience in manufacturing.

  • Low observable coating experience or courses.

  • Completion of an AMPP certificate program.

  • Documented experience and ability to operate cranes and forklifts.

  • Documented work experience with data entry in SAP and MRP systems.

Primary Level Salary Range: $52,094.00 - $125,390.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
