As a Senior Manager, Business Planning & Analysis Global R&D supporting the R&D Finance Team, you will be responsible for providing strategic financial business partnering to Global R&D Clinical trials function. This position leads all the planning cycles (Annual target setting, latest estimates, QBRs, Strat Plan), month-end close processes, consolidation and reporting processes and financial presentations to senior management across a portfolio of clinical trials, ensuring strong cost visibility, disciplined execution, and decision ready insights for leadership

The ideal candidate brings deep FP&A experience supporting R&D or clinical trial environments within MedTech, Pharma, or Biotech, and can translate complex clinical activity into clear financial narratives.       

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Act as the primary finance business partner to the R&D Clinical teams.
  • Provide financial insights to support the portfolio decisions and prioritization.
  • Participate in program and governance reviews, delivering key financial risks and opportunities.
  • Consolidate inputs from cross‑functional partners and develop clear, consistent financial narratives for leadership.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual planning processes for OpEx and CapEx, including forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Own development of planning templates, executive decks, insights, and financial consolidations.
  • Partner closely with Clinical teams to ensure alignment between operational plans, timelines, and financial assumptions.
  • Manage the annual OpEx budget by function, including headcount, personnel and non‑personnel costs, and CapEx for global R&D Clinical teams.
  • Lead consolidation, reporting, and facilitation of monthly close meetings.
  • Oversee accrual processes in coordination with Accounting and Clinical teams, ensuring accurate cost recognition in compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
  • Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and ways of working driving standardization, efficiency, and enhanced transparency across planning, forecasting, and reporting processes.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, career development, and resource planning for one direct report.
  • Coordinate off‑cycle requests, one‑time analyses, and perform ad‑hoc financial analysis, modeling, and consolidations to support leadership decision‑making.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, corporate finance, finance, economics, engineering or related; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive FP&A experience, with direct support of clinical trials, R&D, or development organizations.
  • Experience in MedTech, Biotech, Pharma, or CRO environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and fluent in spoken and written English
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills (including the ability to synthesize, simplify, and convey story with clear and concise messages)
  • Strategic thinking, with strong attention to detail
  • Take ownership for the work and intelligently challenge the status quo
  • Ability to understand the big picture (e.g., impacts across the business, regions, etc)
  • Team player able to interact with all levels and interface effectively with global counterparts
  • Strong proactivity, and quality
  • Problem solving mindset, with a strong passion for driving a simplification agenda
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Medium proficiency in Visualization and Data preparation software (e.g. Tableau, SAP, BI Analysis and Adaptive, Aspire)
