A Sr. Maintenance Worker job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department/Solid Waste Division. This position will assist with the collection, consolidation, and storage of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). The position will have consistent interaction with the citizens of Fort Worth and the surrounding cities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years of general maintenance and/or construction experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Vehicle trailering experience
  • Principles and practices of irrigation systems
  • Forklift experience
  • Riding lawn mower and landscaping tools experience
  • Equipment preventive maintenance experience

The Senior Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include:

  • Ability to input data into the Environmental software program
  • Operate a variety of hand and small power tools and equipment such as push mowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes, trucks, pick axes, and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations. Performs operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven tools and equipment
  • Cut grass, maintain sprinkler systems, water trees and landscape, trim trees and bushes, pick up litter, place mulch around landscape areas, pull weeds, power wash where containers/ compactors are located, install and post signs, maintain tools, equipment and vehicles Programs sprinkler system and troubleshoot equipment at the Convenience Centers
  • Oversee the transport and delivery of materials such as Styrofoam for recycling services and keep official recycling records
  • Oversee the transport and delivery of secured sensitive materials from the Drop off Stations to the Tarrant County Recycling Facility for Shredding and recycling services and keep official disposal records
  • Oversee the transport and delivery of large & small trailers for special event recycling services and disposal as well as keep official recycling services records

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
