Position Overview:
The Senior HR Compliance Specialist is an individual contributor responsible for building, operationalizing, and sustaining SECU’s HR compliance framework. This role will serve as the subject matter expert and primary driver of employment law compliance, regulatory adherence, policy governance, and audit readiness. This role partners closely with HR centers of excellence (COEs), Legal, and Risk, to ensure HR practices align with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- (20 %) Design, implement, and continuously improve SECU’s HR compliance framework. Identify compliance gaps and lead risk mitigation initiatives. Establish compliance governance processes, documentation standards, and monitoring practices.
- (20 %) Serve as the subject matter expert on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes; assess impact and implement required updates. Provide consultive guidance on compliance-related matters. Partner with Legal and Risk as needed on complex employment issues.
- (20 %) Lead internal HR compliance audits. Support external audits or regulatory inquiries. Develop corrective action plans and ensure timely resolution. Maintain audit-ready documentation and reporting processes.
- (20 %) Draft, review, and update the Employee Handbook, Supervisory Procedures Manual, HR policies, and HR procedures. Ensure consistency and compliance across all HR documentation and templates. Maintain version control and centralized documentation standards.
- (20 %) Collaborate with HR centers of excellence to embed compliance into daily operations. Advise on classification, compensation structures, and employment practices to reduce risk. Support investigations from a compliance perspective, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to process.
Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree, or CCUE Certification, or Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science degree via the North Carolina Community College Transfer Program (NC-CTP); Acceptable fields of Study: HR or Related Field
- Minimum 5 years of directly related experience
Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Sr HR Compliance Specialist or 8 years as a Sr HR Compliance Specialist in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP
Job Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Hybrid expectations (1 day onsite per week)
- Substantial amount of sitting
- Use hands and fingers to press keys on a computer keyboard to enter or retrieve information
