We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our team on a 12 month Parental Leave contract. Reporting to the Finance Manager you will lead a small team and be responsible for core accounting activities including managing month end processes, balance sheet integrity as well as identification of process improvement opportunities. Your responsibilities will include –
- Leading and delivering a tight month‑end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness and adherence to month end deadlines.
- People leadership and mentoring of a small team of Assistant Accountants.
- Overseeing key complex month end profit and loss accounts including rebates, ensuring accruals are taken up and variance analysis commentary is completed.
- Payroll journals and authorising the release of wages.
- Acting as key signatory in the approval and release of AP payments.
- Completion of monthly/quarterly US reporting/submissions as required.
- Completion and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
About You
Ideally you will display –
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting/Commerce coupled with CA/CPA qualifications.
- Demonstrated minimum five years experience within a large, commercial environment and accounting team.
- Demonstrated experience with rebate programs and payroll accounting will be advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurately under pressure, particularly during compressed month‑end close cycles
- Strong technical accounting capability, with confidence interpreting accounting standards and applying judgment in a commercial environment.
- People leadership experience in mentoring and developing junior Finance and Accounting staff.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with an ability to adapt your communication to suit different internal stakeholders.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise your work in an agile way.
- A positive, proactive attitude with a focus on seeking out continuous improvement opportunities.
