Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Manager

The Senior Site EHS Manager serves as the primary EHS authority for large, complex manufacturing sites, responsible for shaping, leading, and sustaining exceptional environmental, health, and safety performance across multi-line, and in some cases multi-building operations.

This role provides technical expertise, strategic leadership, and operational influence to proactively manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed EHS deeply into day-to-day decision-making. The Senior Site EHS Manager is a trusted advisor to site leadership, routinely influencing operational strategy, capital projects, and organizational change initiatives to ensure EHS excellence.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role, requiring extensive time in production environments to coach leaders, challenge unsafe conditions, and drive a strong, ownership-based EHS culture across a diverse and complex workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Site-Level EHS Leadership & Strategy
    • Serve as the senior EHS leader for large and/or highly complex sites, providing overarching direction, expert guidance, and accountability for all EHS matters.
    • Act as a key member of the site leadership team, integrating EHS considerations into business planning, operational execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Translate corporate and regional EHS strategies into site-specific execution plans aligned with operational risk profiles and business objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance & External Interface
    • Drive the implementation of CHG EHS Programs and continuous improvement in EHS
    • Lead all environmental, health, and safety regulatory compliance activities, ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations.
    • Serve as the primary site liaison with regulatory agencies, inspectors, and external stakeholders; lead inspections, audits, and follow-up actions.
    • Maintain expert-level knowledge of evolving regulatory requirements and proactively assess their impact on site operations.
  • Risk Management & Prevention Excellence
    • Lead and validate advanced safety and environmental risk assessments across multiple production processes, buildings, utilities, and support functions.
    • Identify systemic and emerging risks associated with complex operations, equipment, materials, and workflows; develop robust mitigation and control strategies.
    • Drive consistent implementation of safety defenses, exposure controls, and environmental protections aligned with corporate frameworks.

Program Ownership & Continuous Improvement

  • Own and drive site-wide implementation of all corporate and site EHS programs, ensuring consistent application across multiple operational areas.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on injury reduction, exposure prevention, environmental impact reduction, and operational resilience.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through audits, field observations, and trending of leading and lagging indicators.
  • Incident Management & Critical Event Response
    • Lead and oversee serious injury, fatality potential, environmental release, and other high-risk incident investigations, ensuring strong root cause analysis and durable corrective actions.
    • Oversee injury and illness tracking and case management, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proactive trend identification.
    • Serve as a key member of the site Emergency Response Team, supporting preparedness planning, drills, and incident response activities.
  • Data, Metrics & Performance Management
    • Drive collection, analysis, and communication of advanced EHS metrics and KPIs using Gensuite (or similar systems).
    • Analyze complex data trends across departments, shifts, and buildings to identify systemic gaps and improvement opportunities.
    • Provide clear, executive-level reporting to site and corporate leadership on EHS performance, risks, and strategic priorities.
  • Training, Coaching & Culture
    • Deliver and support advanced EHS training and coaching for leaders, supervisors, and employee safety teams.
    • Influence site leadership behaviors to strengthen accountability, visible leadership, and employee engagement in EHS.
    • Foster a culture where EHS ownership is embedded at all levels of the organization
  • Capital Projects & Change Management
    • Provide EHS leadership and technical input into capital projects, process changes, new equipment installations, and facility expansions.
    • Ensure Management of Change (MOC) principles are applied to minimize risk during operational and organizational changes.
  • Collaboration & Corporate Integration
    • Partner closely with Corporate / Regional EHS teams on enterprise initiatives, audits, and strategic improvement programs.
    • Share best practices across sites and support elevated EHS performance beyond the assigned location when needed.
  • May support/oversee more than one manufacturing or warehouse facility with EHS.
  • Budget and vendor management for EHS programs.
  • Ability to escalate risk and influence senior leadership decisions.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, including experience supporting large, complex operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing EHS across multiple production lines, departments, or buildings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert ability to interpret and apply complex EHS regulations at a practical, site-operational level.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging both shop-floor employees and senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, coach leaders, and drive sustainable culture change.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and EHS management systems (e.g., Gensuite).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of office and manufacturing environment.
  • Regular exposure to typical industrial conditions (noise, dust, temperature extremes, equipment movement).
  • Ability to walk production floors for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
  • Travel as required based on business needs (typically 10–15%).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, PE, OSHA 30).

$89,026.00 - $163,399.00
