As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a technical expert within the team, owning systems and delivering engineering solutions that power the product. You develop deep insight into system architecture and design, translating complex and ambiguous requirements into scalable, reliable solutions. You demonstrate your expertise through strong technical decision-making, ownership of systems in production, and influence on engineering practices.

You will work as part of the Reliability Engineering & Enablement (REE) team, which builds and operates the platform, integrations, and data capabilities behind ServiceNow at Target. Our team focuses on improving reliability, enabling enterprise data access, and modernizing the platform into a scalable, event-driven, and AI-enabled ecosystem.

  • Translate ambiguous platform and reliability requirements into clear technical solutions
  • Improve system reliability through observability, incident response, and proactive system improvements
  • Design and implement integration patterns (APIs, event-driven systems, data workflows)
  • Contribute to platform modernization efforts, including decoupling and service extraction
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and influence engineering standards
  • Collaborate across teams to align solutions with broader platform and enterprise goals
  • Leverage modern engineering tools, including automation and AI-assisted development, where appropriate

About You

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 3–5+ years of software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in backend development (Golang, JavaScript, or similar)
  • Experience designing and building APIs and distributed systems
  • Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into technical designs and deliver solutions independently
  • Experience owning systems in production, including troubleshooting and reliability improvements
  • Strong understanding of system design tradeoffs (performance, scalability, maintainability)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with ability to influence technical decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with event-driven architectures or distributed systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms and data systems (e.g., GCP, databases, pipelines)
  • Familiarity with observability practices (SLOs, metrics, logging, tracing)
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or integration-heavy platforms
  • Exposure to AI/automation workflows (e.g., MCP, agentic systems)
  • Experience with ServiceNow or enterprise platform integrations
