We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Resilient Connectivity Products (RCP) Hardware Technologies Department in Mission Systems, where your work will directly shape how critical communication systems perform in the most demanding environments. In this role, you will help deliver innovative, mission-critical technology that enables defense customers to operate with confidence, resilience, and speed.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer on the RCP team, you will design and develop high-performance digital hardware used in communication products essential to the defense of our nation. These solutions support Ground, Airborne, and Space applications and require creativity, technical rigor, and a passion for solving complex challenges. This position is an onsite role located in El Segundo, California.

You can expect to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to take ownership, contribute ideas, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Individuals with strong initiative and technical curiosity will find ample opportunity to make an impact and grow.

What You will do

  • Perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, root cause analysis, and integration. Designs will include the use of FPGA, processors, and DDR memory components, and industry interfaces, such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART. Generate Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines and oversee the routing, layout, fabrication, and assembly of complex designs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, firmware, and mechanical engineers, to develop proven hardware designs that meet system performance and operational specifications.

  • Prepare and present project and/or technical information to technical staff, program leadership, management and customers. This includes producing technical documentation, including specifications, hardware design documents, and test plans.

  • Test and troubleshoot electronic circuitry. Includes support lab of design verification testing for circuit card assemblies.

  • Perform trade studies as needed and select components necessary to implement the requirements. Includes supporting system architecture discussions where needed.

What You will learn

  • Develop deep expertise as a subject matter expert in high-speed digital circuit design, influencing design approaches and technical decisions across complex programs.
Strengthen your mastery of hardware electrical engineering principles through hands-on design, analysis, and problem-solving involving high-speed interfaces, processors, and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

  • Expand your technical and leadership capabilities in a growing organization, with opportunities to progress toward advanced technical authority, broader system influence, or people leadership

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Experience with all aspects of circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, layout, build, and test as evidenced by successful design completion.

  • Experience with schematic capture of electrical circuit designs. Includes familiarity with a schematic capture tool (examples may include Siemens/Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Altium, Cadence Allegro, EAGLE, KiCAD, etc.) for creation of circuit card designs.

  • Experience with electrical designs that contain digital electronics such as processors, FPGAs, high-speed transceivers, DDR, and flash memories.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with generating Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines and overseeing the routing, layout, fabrication, and assembly of the design.

  • Experience with Agile for Hardware Development, including planning, tracking, and managing hardware development projects in JIRA is a plus.

  • Familiar with latest technology trends in the area of high-speed digital design, as well as microprocessors, memory, FPGA and interface protocols.

  • Signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) experience with ability to perform pre- and post-layout simulations and analysis to ensure reliable signal transmission and power delivery for high-speed interfaces like PCIe, DDR, and high-speed Ethernet.

  • Project management experience using Earned Value Management System (EVMS). Includes experience performing cost, schedule, and risk management for hardware development projects.
