The Sr Principal Electrical Engineer will focus on the design, development, and sustainment of power converter products. This position leads complex engineering efforts supporting both new product development and long-term sustainment of power conversion systems, ensuring reliability, compliance, and performance across commercial and military applications. The role combines deep technical expertise in power conversion with project ownership and strong cross-functional collaboration.

YOUR IMPACT
These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide deep technical expertise in the design and development of power conversion systems and embedded electrical designs
  • Perform complex electrical engineering analysis, design, redesign, validation, and troubleshooting of high-power conversion systems, including conversion of 480V/60Hz or 400V/50Hz input power to 400Hz output (approximately 115–120V), as well as associated DC power outputs supporting embedded and control systems for Aircraft
  • Balance multiple priorities across new product development and sustaining engineering efforts
  • Support long-life products by addressing component obsolescence, system updates, and corrective improvements
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to deliver integrated system solutions
  • Interface with suppliers and, as needed, customers to resolve complex technical issues and deliver innovative solutions
  • Lead and execute complex electrical engineering projects, ensuring delivery on schedule and within budget
  • Develop, review, and approve complex plans, designs, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with Oshkosh and industry standards
  • Research, establish, and improve standard engineering methodologies, best practices, and procedures
  • Support power conversion control system and embedded systems development, including monitoring and communication of system status and performance
  • Contribute to product qualification activities (design reviews, O&M manual development, troubleshooting guides, seeking UL and CE approvals) and ensure designs remain competitive and compliant
  • Regular attendance is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience with power conversion systems, including power and frequency conversion, high-power electrical systems, or transformer-based designs

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accredited Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with power and frequency conversion systems, including transformers and high-power electrical systems
  • Embedded controls and circuit board development experience, including microcontrollers and power electronics
  • Familiarity with IGBTs and power electronics used in conversion and monitoring applications
  • Experience with networking protocols such as CAN / SAE J1939, BACNET, MODBUS, TCP/IP Ethernet
  • Electrical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action experience
  • Experience supporting both new product development and sustaining engineering environments
  • Familiarity with regulated environments or compliance-driven development processes
  • Process improvement and continuous improvement experience
  • Experience leading other engineers and designers to achieve objectives

Pay Range:

$104,100.00 - $173,900.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
