Sr. Director Project Development-New Power Generation Construction

Job Summary

The Director of Project Development- New Generation Power Construction serves as a strategic leader responsible for shaping, planning, and developing generation and transmission projects that support NiSource’s long‑term vision and objectives. This role partners closely with Integrated Resource Planning, Commercial Development, Construction, and cross‑functional Subject Matter Experts to identify high‑value opportunities and build strategies that bring complex projects to life.

The ideal candidate is an innovative, relationship‑driven leader who can blend technical insight, commercial acumen, and strategic thinking. This role oversees project development from concept through approval, ensuring initiatives are aligned with corporate priorities and positioned for successful execution.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead early‑stage project development efforts through Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors approval, including creation, presentation, and execution of comprehensive business plans.
  • Oversee site selection, permitting strategy, execution strategy, and contracting approach for new generation and transmission projects.
  • Direct project teams through initial Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) studies.
  • Develop and manage contract strategies, RFPs for services and equipment, and vendor selection processes.
  • Establish scalable systems and processes to support long-term project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and stakeholder input to drive continuous improvement in project development practices.
  • Represent NiSource at key industry conferences and events; build and maintain strong networks with industry professionals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Finance, Sustainability, Energy, or a related technical discipline.
  • Working knowledge of renewable generation, energy storage, gas-fired power generation, and backup power systems.
  • Ability to rapidly assess technical risks and project challenges, identify critical‑path issues, and develop feasible solutions.
  • Experience developing or managing large-scale generation assets.
  • Strong understanding of project finance principles, financial statements, development proformas, permitting requirements, regulatory processes, and common financing mechanisms.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams, build trust, and foster shared success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in STEM, Finance, Sustainability, Energy, or a related technical field.

Salary Range*:

$186,600.00 - $279,900.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
