CHG Healthcare’s Technology organization is looking for a Head of Enterprise Architecture (Senior Director) to join our Engineering department. The Engineering Architecture team drives strategic architecture, innovation, and technical excellence across CHG's digital and technology landscape, ensuring our solutions deliver measurable business value and enable our mission to make a difference in the lives of our providers, clients, employees, and communities. As Head of Enterprise Architecture, you will build and lead our Enterprise Architecture (EA) function from the ground up, establishing the vision, standards, and governance that will guide technology decisions across CHG. You'll position EA as an internal consultancy that translates business strategy into actionable technology roadmaps while leading a high-performing team of architects. This role will report to the VP of Engineering with frequent CIO guidance.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale the EA function - Design the operating model, service portfolio, and governance frameworks that position enterprise architecture as a strategic partner to business and technology leaders across Digital Marketing Organization (DMO) and the broader CHG enterprise
- Lead technology modernization - Develop multi-year technology roadmaps that reduce technical debt, drive cloud adoption, and position CHG as a technology leader through strategic adoption of emerging technologies including generative AI
- Translate strategy into execution - Partner with business leaders enterprise-wide to map current and future-state capabilities, identify gaps, and deliver consumable architecture guidance that drives investment decisions and measurable outcomes
- Develop architecture talent - Recruit, coach, and mentor a team of enterprise, solution, and technical architects, building their business acumen and technical development
- Chair standards and governance - Lead technology and architecture standards processes that balance enterprise risk with agility, enabling democratized decision-making while maintaining alignment with business strategy
Qualifications
- T-shaped expertise - Deep technical mastery combined with broad business understanding across CHG's healthcare operations, able to dive deep into technical architecture while connecting technology decisions to business outcomes enterprise-wide
- Technical depth and breadth - Hands-on expertise across cloud computing (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS), APIs, microservices, SOA, event-driven architecture, data analytics, and modern technology stacks with understanding of full software engineering lifecycle
- Business and financial acumen - Strong grasp of business models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, and trade-off thinking to guide technology investments and articulate ROI to executive stakeholders
- Executive influence and communication - Exceptional ability to engage and influence C-suite and business leaders, translating complex technical concepts into business language while pushing back diplomatically when needed
- Innovation mindset - Track record of assessing emerging technologies and disruptive trends, identifying breakthrough technology opportunities, and developing adoption strategies that position organizations as technology leaders
- Architectural governance expertise - Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, ITIL, agile methodologies at scale, and how to establish governance that enables agility while managing enterprise risk
- Team development focus - Proven ability to develop high-performing teams and future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and creating growth opportunities
- Practical and collaborative approach - Vendor-neutral, outcome-focused problem solver who thrives in partnership-based leadership models and navigates complex organizational dynamics with political savvy
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience); Advanced degree (MBA, MCS) preferred
- 10+ years professional experience in IT and technology infrastructure architecture
- 8+ years in technical leadership, solution architecture, or architecture leadership roles
- 8+ years business experience in strategic planning, operations planning, or business analysis
- Experience across at least three disciplines such as business architecture, solution architecture, application development, information analysis, or database management
Preferred
- Certification in architecture (e.g. TOGAF)
- Experience in healthcare or highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with EA tools and graphical modeling approaches
- Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and their business applications
- Experience with enterprise-scale agile frameworks and methodologies
We believe in fair compensation for all of our people, which is why our pay structure takes into account the cost of labor across U.S. geographic markets. For this position, we offer a pay range of $183,400 -- $354,600 annually, with pay varying depending on work location and job-related factors such as knowledge, position level and experience. During the hiring process, your recruiter can provide more information about the specific salary range for the job location.
CHG Healthcare offers starting salaries for sales positions in the form of total target compensation (TTC = base + commission + bonus), which includes base pay, commission, and bonuses. Sales positions receive short-term incentives through commission plans and bonuses. On the other hand, non-sales positions have starting salaries that consist of a base salary and short-term incentives through various bonus plans, which are paid out monthly, quarterly, or annually.
