Senior Director, US Commercial Training + Education, Orthopaedics

This role leads the Americas commercial training and education agenda for Orthopaedics, partnering closely with Global Commercial Training + Education and the Americas Orthopaedics Franchise Leadership Team. You will set strategy and standards for sales capability building, oversee execution across franchises, and drive measurable improvements in readiness and performance.
Reporting relationships & key stakeholders: Reports to VP, Global Commercial Training + Education, Orthopaedics, with a dotted-line relationship to the Americas Orthopaedics Franchise Leadership Team. Partners with Marketing, Commercial Planning, Commercial Excellence, HR, Finance, and senior commercial and local sales leaders; coordinates translation support as needed.
This leader sets high standards, builds accountability, and ensures training experiences are engaging, scalable, and aligned to business priorities.
What you'll be doing:
- Align Americas commercial training strategy with Global Commercial Training + Education and the Americas Orthopaedics Franchise Leadership Team.
- Tailor content and delivery to the Americas business while leveraging global standards and shared assets.
- Own and evolve franchise certification pathways (new hire onboarding, tenured seller development, advanced training, recertifications, product launches, sales manager training, and sales enablement programs).
- Lead the Americas training delivery team and oversee certification activities for a 1,400+ FTE sales population across Recon, Robotics, Trauma, Extremities, and Shoulder.
- Deliver and/or enable programs across the training continuum (e.g., Field Sales Training, national sales meetings, sales enablement academies, market development/growth initiatives).
- Define and maintain sales readiness and certification standards; ensure programs and materials are current and aligned to business needs.
- Integrate global selling methodologies into curricula as applicable (e.g., Challenger Selling).
- Build cross-functional partnerships with Commercial Planning, Commercial Excellence, HR, Finance, Marketing, and Global Training Operations.
- Measure effectiveness and business impact; provide monthly/quarterly KPI reporting to leadership.
- Lead a Community of Practice (COP) to share best practices and improve delivery consistency.
- Partner with global training leaders to audit and continuously improve clinical and sales enablement curricula.
- Support annual diagnostics/assessments and translate insights into multi-year planning, resource prioritization, and budget planning.
What you'll need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced/graduate degree preferred.
- 10+ years of combined commercial experience in sales, sales management, and/or sales/commercial training (healthcare industry preferred).
- Demonstrated people leadership with strong coaching and talent development capability.
- Working knowledge of learning science and instructional design.
- Experience with learning platforms and enablement tools (e.g., LMS, Allego).
- Ability to develop and present strategies and complex business cases to senior leadership.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, collaboration, and relationship-building skills across a matrixed organization.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills with executive-level presence.
Preferred Qualifications
Challenger Selling certification and/or other sales enablement curriculum experience.
- Experience with coaching and feedback frameworks (e.g., GROW, SAID).
- Training facilitation certification and experience delivering both virtual and instructor-led training (V/ILT).
Travel
Up to 50% domestic travel.
