Summary of Role:

Sr. Director, Advanced R&D Projects – gfLABS

GlobalFoundries’ gfLABS organization drives differentiated technology innovation with a strategic horizon of two years and beyond. We collaborate closely with our businesses and ecosystem partners to define and execute medium- and long-range R&D programs.

We are seeking a visionary executive to lead the Advanced R&D Projects (ARDP) team within gfLABS. This role is ideal for a seasoned semiconductor technologist with deep expertise in CMOS, RF, NVM, or Power technologies, and a strong background in substrates, materials, process integration, and tooling. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to a high-performing team of engineers and project managers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the gfLABS strategy and roadmap aligned with the business needs and product line evolution.
  • Lead planning and execution of joint development programs targeting current and emerging markets.
  • Build and mentor a multidisciplinary execution team, including technologists, process engineers, and project managers.
  • Cultivate partnerships with suppliers, universities, and research institutions to address targeted R&D challenges.
  • Champion the value of gfLABS initiatives through clear communication and demonstrated ROI to business stakeholders.
  • Oversee gfLABS operations:
    • Manage 8-quarter budget planning and performance
    • Establish OKR-driven management systems
    • Optimize project scope and timelines for strategic impact
    • Drive continuous improvement in processes and systems

Other Responsibilities:

· Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in semiconductor R&D
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Willingness to travel 25–50%, including to GF’s 200mm fab in Burlington, VT
  • Location: flexible, prefer NY or VT

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven executive leadership and strategic planning experience
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities

Expected Salary Range

$189,600.00 - $330,300.00
