What is the opportunity?
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and platforms the enable analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. This role ensures that data is accurate, reliable, and efficiently delivered across business and technology systems.
What will you do?
Function in accordance with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) framework and governance processes.
Design and develop data workflows and mappings to extract, transform, and load data for purposes of analytics, reporting and integration.
Data extraction from primary and secondary data sources, data migration, maintenance and monitoring of databases/data systems that house and distribute the data.
Investigate source data to understand structure and interrelationships; identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets from various sources.
Evaluate internal systems for inefficiency and inaccuracies, develop and maintain protocols for handling, processing, data cleansing and identifying data quality issues as data is transferred from source to target.
Evaluate data elements/codes, data attributes, business rules and data standards.
Assist with project documentation including source-to-target mapping, data taxonomies, data lineage and other data management artifacts. Ensure that data definitions are clear, concise, technically valid, and accurately represented in the processes.
Collect/document business and data requirements, create specifications for reports and visualizations, design and execute test cases.
Assist in the development, maintenance and synchronization of conceptual, logical and physical data models.
Assist in the development and maintenance of interactive visualizations and dashboards.
Participate in development of test plans and perform quality assurance and testing of own work and that of peers.
Ensure work includes necessary audit controls such as Audit, Balance and Control (ABC) Framework and security controls within all design and deliverables.
Accurately define and execute transformations, aggregations and other data manipulations to meet requirements.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum 8+ years with implementing data solutions including, data engineering and integration, database development, advanced SQL and relevant data transformation tools
Strong working knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing techniques and concepts (including ETL processes, Star Schema/Snowflake Schema), data extraction, aggregation and data visualization
Proficiency in SQL or other query languages, data integration, ETL and working with large data sets that are structured and partially structured
Experience with data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau etc.), data visualization wireframes and mockups
Strong analytical and consultative mindset; ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment delivering against tight deadlines
Nice to have:
Financial Services experience highly preferred.
