Job Description Summary:
This position is responsible for the comprehensive coordination, implementation, and evaluation of trauma related education, outreach, and injury prevention activities for Ohio
Health Trauma Centers. This position enhances the relationship between OhioHealth Trauma Centers and referring hospitals (non-trauma and trauma centers) throughout areas of Ohio and surrounding states in order to promote the collaborative networking system required for a successful state/regional trauma system in compliance with the standards of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for Trauma Center verification status. Advisors evaluate and develop strategies to improve trauma care through process change and educational opportunities. The Trauma Advisor collaborates with the individual trauma centers to provide essential deliverables required for successful verification by the ACS.
This position is accountable for building an integrated program of outreach, education, and injury prevention program for OhioHealth Trauma Services. The Advisor will collaborate with system level partners, referring centers, EMS, and community members to establish OhioHealth Trauma programming within the region and throughout the state of Ohio. Additionally, the Advisor coordinates programming for marketing and business development activities to internal and external customers.
Responsibilities And Duties:
50% Education & Performance Improvement
Evaluate and analyze learning needs related to traumatic injuries, trauma systems, and injury prevention.
Coordinate the development and monitoring of care site trauma related educational standards for the healthcare provider team, essential for ongoing compliance with the ACS trauma center verification requirements.
Design, implement, and coordinate trauma education based on the learning needs of health care professionals at OhioHealth Trauma Centers, and referring hospitals, EMS providers.
Collaborates with the System Chief, Senior Director of Trauma Services, or trauma center care site leadership to implement physician and advanced practice provider education on trauma-related topics.
25% Outreach Efforts
Collaborates with Trauma Service personnel to implement PI initiatives requiring education.
Maintains a tracking system for referring hospital coordination, and provides documentation for review by the ACS.
The ACS requires that trauma centers demonstrate an effort to develop and maintain relationships with other trauma and non-trauma centers. The Advisor is the primary liaison for EMS and trauma referring hospital communication Identifies trauma patients from referring hospitals and provides clinical information and necessary process-related loop closure.
Contributes to the data validation process for the care site trauma databases.
Coordinates outreach events for referring hospitals. Maintains monthly statistical reports to demonstrate referral patterns and volumes.
25% Injury Prevention
Develops and directs injury prevention initiatives based upon data from OhioHealth Trauma Center Registries. The Advisor uses a systematic approach to identify frequent injury mechanisms and their associated societal impact to develop and implement community-based injury prevention programming.
Identifies and collaborates with a variety of potential injury prevention stakeholders including partners at state and local health departments, community-based organizations, academic institutions and advocacy groups. Integrates injury prevention principles into the trauma programs and trauma system.
Identifies potential funding sources for injury prevention programs and policy efforts. Writes and disseminates evaluation reports and manuscripts that communicate injury prevention findings to OhioHealth System personnel and public audiences. Serves as an information resource for the public and legislators.

Kind and Length of Experience: Minimum of five years combined teaching and clinical expertise in critical care, emergency department, and/or trauma nursing.
