GDIT is looking for an Enterprise Cloud Engineer to join our large IT infrastructure program in support of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based in Research Triangle Park, NC. As the cloud engineer, you will work with a team of engineers and non-technical customers to implement secure and operational compliant Cloud solutions (Azure/AWS). This role will operate and maintain Cloud Infrastructure and provide input into operational activities based on best practices and tailored to the clients’ infrastructure needs. In this role, the candidate should have a strong understanding of application, server, network security, and government requirements such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and ATO process. The role will also provide the business level input necessary for the customer to maximize the benefit of the cloud environment.
All in all, you should bring a solid operational background with experience conceptualizing and implementing Cloud solutions.
Position is for full time employment and will be based at GDIT’s office in Research Triangle Park, NC. Remote/Telework will be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure platforms using Terraform IaC (Infrastructure As Code)
- Implement best practices for cloud architecture, security, and compliance.
- Collaborate with application development and security teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions.
- Automate infrastructure deployment and management processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Monitor and optimize cloud resources for performance, cost, and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure and services issues.
- Stay updated with the latest cloud technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide operational expertise to the program team and government staff, and assist in deployment and improvement of products and deliverables to further support of a large government organization that is in transition to a Cloud hosting model
- Participate in the cloud services functional and security evaluation and selection process
- Manage research and evaluation of current market trends, best practices and preferred operational approach to ensure the solution matches services/agency needs
- Assists and supports client activities to eliminate gaps or inconsistencies in the operational delivery, articulating cloud benefits and messaging
- Assist existing support staff during the rollout, transition, & operational phases
Qualifications:
Required:
- Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer with expertise in AWS and/or Azure platforms in a matrix organization
- Bachelors in IT related field and/or 5+ years IT knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience in cloud operation and administration (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Subject Matter Expert in Cloud Technologies, including professional experience operating solutions built on Azure or AWS
- Understanding of Cloud technologies (VPC, RDS, IAM, Organizations, ELB) and others
- Experience with High-Availability, Fault Tolerance, Scalability, Database Concepts, System and Software
- Understanding of application, server, and network security and government requirements such as FISMA/FedRAMP
- Experience coding in Terraform to fully automate configuration and management of Cloud resources.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to automate cloud resource deployment and management
- Knowledge of development methodologies and more than one of the following languages: .NET, Java, PHP, Perl, Python, or Ruby.
- Direct experience in an enterprise large-scale hosted computing environment
- Experience with hybrid Cloud environments
- Experience assessing, planning, designing, and migrating/transforming legacy applications to the Cloud
- Working knowledge of software development tools, web services, and methodologies
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate and/or Azure Solution Administrator Associate certification

- Must possess strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated experience working with stakeholders
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

- Must be able to articulate cloud technologies and approaches to all levels of customer and contractor personnel
Desired:
- Terraform Infrastructure as code (IaC) experience is strongly preferred
- Continuous integration/continuous deployment environments using GitLab are strongly preferred
- Knowledge of DevOps technologies is preferred
- AWS Solutions Architect Expert and/or Azure Solution Administrator Expert certification preferred
- ITIL certification or practitioner is a plus.
- Configuration management using systems such as Ansible, Chef, or similar is a plus
- Container systems (Kubernetes, Mesosphere, Docker) experience is a plus
The likely salary range for this position is $127,500 - $172,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
