Position Description

The Sr. Clinical Applications Engineer will function as a subject matter expert and analyst for clinical application functions including Laboratory, Pharmacy, PMS, and other clinical applications that are standard offerings provided to our practices.  This will include implementation and support on project plans, addressing goals, deadlines, testing, implementation and post-live support of assigned laboratory, pharmacy and revenue cycle applications, sucha as Orchard Harvest, Orchard Enterprise Lab, EnterpriseRx, LibertyRx and  as well as other types of applications.

This role will respond to and processes all activities for the maintenance and support of lab, pharmacy, and EHR platforms to meet specified strategic and management objectives for the organization as well as for the individual user markets. Additionally, this position is responsible for the daily system performance and escalation of issues to the appropriate technical staff, functional staff, and/or vendor representatives.  The Application Systems Analyst stays engaged with the client until satisfactory resolution, or appropriate hand-off is achieved.

This role will be responsible for working externally with our practices to optimize clinical workflows, identifying gaps in both technology and processes that can streamline throughput and improve the quality of patient care. Creating optimization plans and gap analysis’ to be presented to practices and senior leadership.  Internally this role will work in concert with the PMO team to create a project plan for implementation, identifying appropriate and required cross functional and IT teams to engage for successful implementation.

This role is responsible for collaborating with others to create a culture of service to the various user markets.  The Application Systems Analyst will interact and collaborate with fellow application department staff as well as with source vendors and internal interface teams to create a level of customer service that exceeds user expectations. 

The Sr Clinical Applications Engineer follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be researched and obtained. The Analyst exercises strategic and critical judgment within defined standards and guidelines. The Analyst collaborates with others to interview clients, capture basic business requirements, and research existing business and system processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To represent MSH IT in planning with other business units
  • To LEAD on real-world workflow within the clinical/hospital domain
  • To advise on and participate in strategic business objectives and decisions
  • To provide ideas and visionary thinking regarding the use of clinical content and knowledge in supporting real-world clinical business needs
  • To identify, research and develop new use-case(s) for content delivery, management and integration into current and future clinical workflow and processes
  • Ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership, customers, providers, IT, patients, etc.
  • Customer relationship mindset; ability to appropriately foster relationships with vendors and other MSH stakeholders
  • Assists in Laboratory, Pharmacy and EHR applications design to include functional integration, dictionary development, interface testing, system testing, drug pricing updates, daily, weekly and monthly reports, and electronic transactions as it relates to the clinical systems.
  • Interacts with users and applies Laboratory, Pharmacy and EHR application and business process knowledge to understand, anticipate, and support user requirements.
  • Replicates and diagnoses complex Laboratory, Pharmacy, and/or EHR application issues and recommends or performs remedial action to correct problems using comprehensive application knowledge and business practice knowledge.
  • Produces all necessary application inventory documentation on systems and applications used by the practices.
  • Coordinates vendor meetings and/or network communications when experiencing significant application systems issues.
  • Manages and monitors application system interfaces, and works with vendor and technical teams to enhance, change and reconfigure interfaces as needed.
  • Verifies that engineering teams are conducting all necessary system security, backups and OS upgrades in a timely fashion and after thorough testing.
  • Coordinates and manages all technical issues with the clinical applications associated with improving application systems architecture to provide best practices and application performance for the clinical users.
  • Provides second level support for clinical applications.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and method
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors
  • Support business process Re-engineering efforts
  • Analysis of business processes and identification of opportunities for improvement.

Minimum Requirements

6+ years’ experience in implementing or supporting healthcare solutions using information technology.  Experience in business analysis, implementing workflow processes

Critical Skills

  • 6+ years of Pharmacy applications experience
  • Subject matter expertise in Pharmacy business practices
  • Working knowledge of clinical/healthcare field and computer applications
  • Collaborative, customer-focused attitude and ability to create value for USON
  • Leadership style that builds collaboration
  • Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing priorities

Additional Knowledge & Skills

Healthcare operations and general Clinical applications experience highly desired

Education

4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions-

Traditional office environment.

Travel occasionally, 10%.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$89,700 - $149,500
