The Benefits Specialist will be an important part of the Peter Millar People Team and will serve as an integral point of contact for our employees on all benefit related questions, and will be essential in helping to scale and support the day-to-day people operations. The Benefits Specialist will serve as the main point of contact for all benefit plans, including medical, dental, leaves and workers comp as well as collaborating in other HR functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of benefits programs, systems, policies, and procedures
  • Main point of contact for all benefit questions/queries by employees, new and established
  • Manage all facets of employee benefits to include employee change in status, open enrollment, auditing and communicating to staff regarding their benefits
  • Monitor employee termination process to ensure termination within BCBSNC, Unum, Transamerica, Health Equity, and other benefit vendors
  • Audit monthly BCBSNC invoice to include Health, Dental, Vision, and Cobra coverage
  • Audit monthly Unum invoice to include Life, Disability, and ancillary coverage
  • Partner with benefit vendors and internal departments as needed
  • Approve and reconcile Fitness Reimbursements on a twice annual basis
  • Update Pet Insurance memberships monthly following payroll deadlines
  • Review and approve Tuition Reimbursement applications and maintain records
  • Assist with organizing employee seminars and other activities as needed

Other HR Responsibilities:

  • Work with Payroll to implement processes to improve efficiencies in administering benefits and updating HRIS System
  • Assist Payroll as needed to include audits, file management, reporting, and ad-hoc requests
  • Own file auditing on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance for audit purposes
  • Oversee internal digital communications, update policies and programs and own communications interdepartmentally
  • Maintain and track off-boarding records to ensure a smooth transition of employment

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required, to include Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to use critical thinking to analyze, understand and interpret various situations
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments
  • Motivated self-starter who thrives in a team environment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3 – 5 years of Human Resources or equivalent experience
  • Experience administering benefits
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Publisher, Adobe
  • Experience working within Workday preferred
  • Customer service experience a plus
