ING

Sr Associate / VP EMEA Corporate Loan Syndicate

AME (Amsterdam - Maple) Full time

The Team

The Loan Distribution Group (“LDG”) is a core pillar of Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) and a key driver of ING’s ‘Capital Velocity’ strategy, a ‘must win’ battle for the bank. LDG has presence in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Brussels, Milan, Madrid, New York, Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong with c. 100 FTEs. Loan Syndicate EMEA Corporate & FI spans 4 locations (Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt and Milan).

ING is a leading player in the EMEA syndicated loan market, with leading positions in EMEA, the Benelux and CEE. Our market position is based on a strong flow of active mandates. The Loan Syndicate team gets involved when ING has a lead role in the syndication process (i.e. Coordinator, Underwriter, Active Bookrunner and/or Documentation Agent) and provides advice and market expertise to ING’s Wholesale Banking clients.

The EMEA Corporate & FI Loan Syndicate team originates and executes syndicated loan transactions for the corporate and financial institution clients of ING. This includes event-driven (a.o. M&A, pre/post IPO) syndicated loan transactions as well as bridges to capital markets and refinancing. Our team is characterized by a broad and diverse background organising social team events alongside our day to day work on a frequent basis.

We are looking for a Vice President / Senior Associate to join our EMEA Corporate & FI Loan Syndicate team in Amsterdam. Are you ready to join a dynamic, leading and client-facing team of specialists who provide tailor-made syndicated financing solutions for our Wholesale Banking clients?

The Role & Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for (supporting the team with) the origination, structuring, underwriting, syndication and execution of syndicated loan transactions for large corporates and financial institutions in Western Europe, with primary focus on the Benelux. As a result you will be working closely with an international team of stakeholders from a.o. CMA, sector coverage, lending, credit, legal and agency. Together with our Loan Sales colleagues you will also be involved in the distribution of those transactions to a wide array of banks and institutional investors. Important part of your role will be active and direct contact with clients, other banks and legal counsels.

Client and transaction origination:

  • Together with the relevant Sector Coverage Team, identify, develop and acquire relationships with Wholesale Banking clients of ING and giving our clients the best customer experience possible and position ourselves well for CMA mandates;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the relevant Sector Coverage Teams and CMA departments such as Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and Corporate Finance;
  • Support the Loan Syndicate teams in the origination, structuring, underwriting, syndication and execution of syndicated loans. Including the preparation of client presentations, structuring of transactions and negotiating terms and conditions;
  • Work within the team in Amsterdam while sharing market intelligence and supporting the LDG teams globally;
  • Together with the Loan Sales team, identify and maintain relationships with financial institutions and ensure a smooth distribution of transactions;
  • Closely follow loan market dynamics, including the relevant bank regulations and translate this into relevant market updates for our Wholesale Banking clients.

Transaction execution and management:

  • Manage and assist in the execution and financial closing of syndicated loan transactions, including the management of the mandate and long-form documentation process;
  • Prepare  and contribute to Loan Syndicate advices supporting the primary sale of syndicated loans; including loan market analysis, opinion on credit structures, bank appetite, sell-down strategy and pricing.

Portfolio management:

  • Take responsibility for market intelligence as support for the presentation on market updates and commercial opportunities;
  • Initiate and shape innovations to make the Loan Syndicate platform ‘future proof’;
  • Conduct data analysis.

Our team offers a working environment with experienced and supportive team members who can help you to learn and grow fast. We also offer professional development and learning courses to help you reach your goals and potential.

What we are looking for

  • You have (5-8 years) relevant experience with originating and structuring syndicated loans, preferably gained in a sector coverage team, in a comparable loan syndications function or in a relevant lending focused team;
  • You are eager to learn, curious, energetic, flexible, self-starting and with a “take it on and make it happen” mentality;
  • You can systematically analyze and solve problems;
  • You have the ability to handle particulars of the origination, execution, documentation and closing of syndicated loan transactions;
  • You have high quality standards, attention to detail and a clear customer and market focus;

  • Act as a point of learning for interns and Analysts and monitor quality and accuracy of their output;
  • Be able to multitask, plan ahead and prioritise competing demands on time;
  • Fluency in verbal and written English (preferably also in Dutch but not a must) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
