NiSource is one of the largest fully regulated utility companies in the U.S., serving millions of customers across six states. We’re more than an energy provider—we’re a team committed to innovation, inclusion, and growth. At NiSource, you’ll find a workplace that encourages collaboration, supports professional development, and empowers employees to make an impact.

AMI Operations is where the utility’s digital transformation becomes real. It is the point where advanced technology, data intelligence, and day‑to‑day utility operations converge to change how the organization actually works. As utilities move toward more automation, distributed energy resources, electrification, and advanced analytics, AMI becomes the foundation for everything that comes next. Leading the AMI Operations team means shaping the systems and processes that will define the utility’s next decade of modernization.

The Senior Electric AMI Operations Specialist is responsible for the monitoring, management, and analysis of the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems and assets. This includes leveraging the AMI headend system and other applications to monitor and track AMI communications network performance, AMI meter read rate, AMI device alerts and alarms, and other KPIs. Additionally, this role will be responsible for handling handoffs with parallel NIPSCO and vendor teams responsible for implementing these systems, deploying devices, and managing downstream business processes.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage assessment, testing, and execution of firmware upgrades for AMI meters, communications network devices, and other AMI hardware

  • Manage assessment, testing, and execution of meter reconfiguration as new meter programs are identified and made available

  • Manage the AMI system to monitor daily meter read delivery and network performance and ensure that daily system batch jobs are run successfully

  • Manage and report on analysis of AMI alerts and alarms and track resolution of any issues to support timely repairs of the AMI system, network, and associated equipment

  • Manage collaboration between field operations teams (meters and communications network devices) for repair of AMI devices

  • Act as a subject matter expert for all AMI components (headend software capabilities, firmware, equipment, communications, collectors, repeaters, modems, and ancillary devices used for operations of the AMI Network)

  • Manage analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure service level agreement (SLA) compliance and overall system performance

  • Oversee and facilitate coordination with Billing and Meter-to-Cash teams to monitor meter read rates, identify any AMI meter or communications issues impacting meter reading or billing, and facilitate resolution

  • Oversee and facilitate coordination with outage management and dispatch personnel to leverage AMI alerts and alarms for improved outage response
