Sr ABAP Developer

Job Summary
The Development Lead will provide hands-on leadership and oversight for SAP development activities across multiple modules and systems. This role is responsible for supervising a team of ABAP developers, managing complex development projects, and defining technical strategies that improve performance, quality, and automation using modern tools including Generative AI. The Development Lead will work closely with business, functional, and technical teams across global locations and contribute significantly to solution architecture, process optimization, and innovation in development standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and guide a team of ABAP developers to deliver high-quality and efficient solutions
  • Define clear, step-by-step development requirements to generate automated code using Generative AI tools for new development initiatives
  • Design, develop, and optimize complex tools, interfaces, workflows, and custom programs in SAP systems including FI, MM, and SD
  • Supervise the development and implementation of robust SAP coding standards and enforce adherence across the team
  • Conduct detailed code reviews, performance tuning, and refactoring of existing custom objects to ensure maintainability and quality
  • Monitoring of system short dump, update failure and take corrective action to address and eliminate errors.
  • Provide expert-level support in SAP development for ECC, CIDS, GRC, Solution Manager, and related SAP environments
  • Ensure smooth and consistent integration through OData services, web services, APIs, and JSON/XML formats
  • Collaborate with business and functional teams to understand requirements, propose technical solutions, and resolve issues
  • Monitor and maintain system development activities, focusing on performance, errors (short dumps), process chains, and interface logs
  • Apply technical knowledge to enhance development processes through scripting, automation, and usage of Python and ZPL (preferred)
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to improve development processes, tooling, and efficiency
  • Manage development lifecycle activities from requirement gathering, technical design, unit testing, transport, and go-live support
  • Stay updated with the latest SAP and non-SAP development trends and technologies and incorporate them into the solution roadmap
  • Work with QA and project management teams to support test planning, defect management, and deployment coordination
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior developers and serve as a technical escalation point for the development team
  • Regularly update stakeholders on development progress, risks, and deliverables

Area of Focus

  • ABAP Development across modules: FI, MM, SD, Workflow
  • SAP systems: ECC, HCM, Solution Manager, GRC
  • Advanced development tools and practices including code generation with Generative AI
  • Web services, APIs, OData, JSON/XML integration
  • Coding standards, version control, and development quality governance
  • Debugging, performance tuning, and refactoring
  • Automation tools, scripting (Python, ZPL desirable)

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Information Systems or related field

Experience

  • At least 1 full lifecycle SAP implementation experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of development experience in SAP systems
  • Proven experience managing development teams and delivering complex technical solutions
  • Strong understanding of FI, MM, SD, and Workflow module development
  • Demonstrated expertise in building custom tools, interfaces, and reports
  • Experience in developing coding guidelines and enforcing code quality standards
  • Solid background in OData, Webservice, APIs, and integration design
  • Working knowledge of SQ01,Python and ZPL (preferred)
  • Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager processes and documentation practices
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills
