As a Speech Pathologist within Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy, you will evaluate and treat adult outpatient neurological patients with communication and swallowing disorders. This population includes individuals with conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), stroke, cognitive impairments, and dementia. You will perform comprehensive assessments, interpret findings to support medical diagnosis, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s functional goals.
In this role, you will provide education and counseling to patients and their families while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients’ independence and quality of life while building specialized expertise in adult neurological rehabilitation
A caregiver in this position works M-F| 8:00am—5:00pm| no weekends or holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
Interpret and reports on test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
Provide counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families.
Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.
Select assistive speech devices to improve patient communication.
Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy.
Provide observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine the need for other services.
Maintain records of all services.
Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers.
Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.
Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology
Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
Completion of a nine-month clinical fellowship year
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform tests.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
