Location: Calgary, Alberta

Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre has an excellent full-time permanent career opportunity for an experienced Department Manager. This position will report directly to the General Manager. Under oversight and working in concert with the GM, this position will also work closely with the Medical Director, managers, and team leads. The successful candidate will support the GM in providing communication, corporate initiatives, and direction to team members in an established hospital, ensuring operational and service excellence.

In this role, you will be passionate about providing leadership and development for a multifaceted team. You understand and prepare for possible challenges that come with a large team and a fast-paced and thriving medical facility. This does not phase you because you enjoy an active environment and are proactive in connecting with your teams and leaders on a regular basis. In this role, you will require excellent people leadership and organizational skills to meet upcoming deadlines and related company goals. Key responsibilities and attributes for this role are;

  • Strong leadership skills: experience managing multiple teams in the context of an operational environment with emphasis on excellent communication/coaching skills.

  • Adaptable/Flexibility: the ability to adapt to an ever-changing working environment and effectively pivot between competing priorities.

  • Change management: the ability to drive and manage positive change while considering people and financial impacts.

  • Support: provide the General Manager support in all aspects of operations, including people, recruitment, finance, capital expenditures, inventory and special projects

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a leadership role overseeing large teams in an operational and management capacity (preferred).

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to adapt to various listeners.

  • Management in the veterinary or health care field (preferred)
