As a Special Application Engineer – Nuclear, you are serving as the primary technical authority for Masoneilan control valve solutions during the Inquiry‑to‑Order (ITO) phase. You are leading technical application engineering, estimating support, and solution development for nuclear and advanced nuclear opportunities. You are working closely with customers, Sales, and cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment between nuclear codes, customer requirements, supplier qualifications, and internal engineering standards while enabling a smooth transition into execution.
As a Special Application Engineer – Nuclear, you are being responsible for:
Nuclear Opportunity & Application Leadership
Acting as the technical application lead for nuclear and advanced nuclear opportunities involving Masoneilan control valves.
Supporting early opportunity identification and technical qualification, including pre‑RFQ customer engagements.
Partnering with Sales and leadership teams to assess feasibility, compliance, technical risks, and bid readiness prior to commitment.
Technical Specification & Code Analysis
Reviewing and interpreting customer specifications, datasheets, and applicable nuclear codes and standards.
Translating regulatory, safety, and quality requirements into executable valve designs and application solutions.
Identifying specification gaps, technical risks, and opportunities for clarification or optimization.
Customized Nuclear Valve Solutions
Developing applications specific Masoneilan valve solutions tailored for nuclear service environments.
Providing technical recommendations that balance compliance, safety, performance, cost, and delivery objectives.
Influencing customer decisions through structured trade studies and technical evaluations.
Estimating, Proposal & ITO Support
Providing technical input into cost estimates, schedules, and proposal documentation during the ITO phase.
Collaborating with sourcing, quality, and execution teams to validate cost and lead‑time commitments.
Documenting technical assumptions, compliance statements, risks, and exclusions clearly within proposals.
Supplier & Cross‑Functional Coordination
Interfacing nuclear-qualified suppliers to ensure technical, regulatory, and qualification alignment.
Collaborating across Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Operations, and Project Management teams.
Acting as the technical focal point between customers, internal teams, and suppliers.
ITO‑to‑OTR Transition & Execution Support
Ensuring complete, accurate technical handover from ITO to execution teams.
Supporting execution through resolution of clarifications, deviations, concessions, and NCRs.
Participating in customer technical negotiations to maintain compliance and project continuity.
Engineering Capability Development
Mentoring Application Engineers on nuclear specifications, valve application principles, and qualification requirements.
Contributing to nuclear application engineering best practices, tools, and knowledge repositories.
Supporting technical training and succession planning within the nuclear application engineering organization.
Fuel your passion
To be successful in this role you are:
Have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Have strong technical experience with control valves or engineered flow‑control equipment (Masoneilan or equivalent).
Have demonstrated experience interpreting and applying nuclear codes, standards, and customer specifications.
Have experience working in engineered‑to‑order environments with cross‑functional teams.
Have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
Preferred:
Have experience supporting nuclear power, advanced nuclear, or SMR projects.
Have familiarity with ASME Section III, RCC‑M, IEC, IEEE, or equivalent nuclear standards.
Have experience working with nuclear‑qualified suppliers and supplier audits.
Have background supporting long‑cycle capital projects or regulated industries.
