We have an opportunity for a Specialist Nurse to join their team of staff in the Oncology department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

  • Deliver expert nursing care to patients with cancer across outpatient, inpatient, day-case and ambulatory settings.
  • Undertake specialist assessments, contributing to holistic care planning, symptom management and ongoing review.
  • Act as a clinical expert in cancer pathways, supporting diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and survivorship care.
  • Provide specialist advice to patients and families, supporting informed decision-making and self-management.
  • Support the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments (where appropriately trained), radiotherapy pathways, or disease-specific services.
  • Provide emotional, psychological and practical support to patients and carers throughout the cancer journey.
  • Act as a key point of contact for patients, improving continuity of care and coordination across services.
  • Support patients in managing treatment side effects and complications, escalating concerns appropriately.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
  • Significant post-registration experience in Oncology and/or Haematology nursing.
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge in cancer care pathways and symptom management.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and quality frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree (or working towards) in cancer care, advanced practice, or leadership.
  • Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or equivalent.
  • Experience in leading service development and innovation.
  • Evidence of research, audit, or published work in oncology.
  • Experience in both NHS and independent sector oncology services.
