About the role

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple specialist mental health services within the SVHNS Inner City Health Stream, including Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Older People’s Mental Health (inpatient and community), Eating Disorders (inpatient and outpatient), and the Aboriginal Mental Health & Wellbeing Service.
  • Lead and manage a large, diverse multidisciplinary workforce (nursing, allied health, psychology, clinical neuropsychology, dietetics, peer workers and medical staff), with responsibility for workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, supervision, wellbeing, and day-to-day operational support.
  • Ensure strong clinical governance and safety across all services by overseeing compliance with policies and governance frameworks, monitoring risks and incidents, leading or participating in clinical review processes, and supporting high-quality, patient-centred and recovery-oriented care.
  • Drive service development, quality improvement, and redesign initiatives, including model of care development, evaluation activities, research engagement, and alignment with NSW Health and local strategic priorities.
  • Promote and embed culturally safe, trauma-informed practice across all teams, and support the Aboriginal Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordinator to implement NSW Health strategies and local initiatives that improve outcomes for Aboriginal consumers and communities.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships with primary care, NGOs, Local Health Districts, NSW Police and Ambulance, CESPHN, Aboriginal Medical Services, and other stakeholders, while contributing to service planning, KPI monitoring, reporting, and briefings to senior leadership.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a health-related or community development field, and/or appropriate health experience, including relevant work experience in mental health.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational, financial, human resource, and workplace health and safety considerations within complex health services.
  • Proven ability to identify partnership opportunities and successfully build and manage relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in mental health in a clinical capacity, with specific experience in adult and/or older persons’ mental health.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement initiatives, and the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, strong computer literacy, and experience using email and electronic patient record systems.
  • Effective time management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet competing and conflicting deadlines.
