The Specialist - Materials is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of materials used in poultry production and processing. This role ensures that all necessary supplies, equipment, and raw materials are available to support uninterrupted operations while maintaining cost efficiency and compliance with company policies. The position requires strong coordination with vendors, production teams, and logistics personnel to optimize the supply chain and maintain proper inventory levels.

Responsibilities:
Procurement & Supplier Coordination:
Source and procure materials, supplies, and equipment required for poultry production and processing.
Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules to meet operational needs.
Inventory Management:
Monitor inventory levels and adjust orders to prevent shortages or overstocking.
Implement and maintain inventory tracking systems to ensure accurate records.
Conduct regular cycle counts and physical audits of stock levels.
Material Distribution & Logistics:
Coordinate the distribution of materials and supplies to various departments, ensuring production and processing areas have what they need.
Work with warehouse and logistics teams to optimize storage and material flow.
Troubleshoot and resolve supply chain issues that may impact production schedules.
Compliance & Quality Control:
Ensure all materials meet quality standards and regulatory requirements for poultry production.
Adhere to company policies regarding safety, food safety, and material handling.
Maintain accurate documentation for audits and regulatory compliance.
Process Improvement & Cost Efficiency:
Identify opportunities to streamline procurement and inventory processes for efficiency and cost savings.
Analyze material usage data to optimize ordering and reduce waste.
Work with cross-functional teams to improve supply chain management strategies.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory levels, and supplier agreements.
Generate reports on material usage, costs, and inventory trends.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting material needs based on production planning.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, logistics, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in materials management, procurement, or supply chain roles, preferably in poultry or food production.
Strong knowledge of inventory management systems and supply chain principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP/MRP systems.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with suppliers, production teams, and warehouse staff.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in poultry or food manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for materials used in poultry processing.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other efficiency improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a production or warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.
Standing, walking, and performing inventory tasks for extended periods.
