POSITION OVERVIEW
The Specialist, Learning Solutions, BDC Academy is responsible for the development, sales, and delivery management of leadership development programs. The role requires strong facilitation and program management skills in both in-person and virtual environments, addressing complex business challenges faced by entrepreneurs and aligned with BDC’s strategic priorities. The Specialist contributes to the design and integration of innovative, cross-functional delivery models, including education and cohort-based/group learning formats. These initiatives require a deep, holistic understanding of business challenges, market dynamics, advisory services operations, and the organization as a whole.
The role involves establishing and managing the Academy’s business development strategy in collaboration with multiple stakeholders (Business Development, Financing, Partnerships, etc.). The Specialist oversees promotional campaigns for Academy programs in a cross-functional manner. In partnership with the Business Development team, the Specialist is accountable for Academy program sales to ensure optimal cohort sizes that maximize client impact. The role also includes mentoring Academy colleagues on business development practices.
The Specialist acts as master of ceremonies for cohorts composed of CEOs from large and high growth companies and serves as BDC’s representative to these groups. The individual is responsible for fostering strong peer-to-peer dynamics that generate transformational impact for participants. They build trusted relationships with each CEO to ensure high satisfaction and to encourage participation in additional Academy programs. As part of this role, the Specialist travels to Ontario—primarily to the Kingbridge Center—to deliver programs in person. Cohort schedules are established in advance, allowing for effective travel planning.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Manage programs and CEO cohorts from the large and high growth segment (e.g., clients from the Growth Driver Program), acting as BDC’s representative and “maestro” to ensure exceptional client satisfaction and cross selling of other Academy, Advisory Services, and Financing offerings
Develop and manage the Academy’s business development strategy in collaboration with key stakeholders (Business Development, Financing, Partnerships, etc.)
Design and implement innovative, cross-functional delivery models, including education and cohort-based/group learning formats, in partnership with internal (Advisory Services, Financing, CCTE, Partnerships, etc.) and external partners
Contribute to Advisory Services strategy through the design and optimization of educational programs and cohort-based solution delivery
Manage the Academy’s program portfolio to ensure continuous alignment with the needs of served segments and BDC’s strategic priorities, while supporting rapid growth and client satisfaction
Ensure all programs are well designed (architecture, curricula and client journeys), including content integration across all solutions (Advisory Services, Financing, etc.) to increase organizational synergy and alignment
Monitor and report on program performance using key performance indicators
Oversee promotional campaigns for Academy programs in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders
Provide ongoing training and coaching to Academy team on client relationship management and business development
Stay current on emerging trends in leadership and management skill development for entrepreneurs
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bilingual (spoken and written French and English)
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field
8–10 years of experience in a consulting firm, entrepreneur education, and/or business development
Availability to travel to Ontario multiple times per year to deliver cohort sessions, primarily between September and June, including some Saturdays.
Strong business development skills
Exceptional ability to build strong relationships with entrepreneurs and stakeholders
Deep understanding of how entrepreneurs learn
Strategic mindset combined with strong attention to detail
Solid knowledge of consulting firm operations and financial institutions
Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop, conceptualize, and present new ideas and approaches
