Diageo has set up a Data, Analytics & Insights (DA&I) function within Diageo Business Services India Ltd. (DBSI) focused on demonstrating our core information assets (data, reporting, insights and advanced analytics capabilities) to better equip markets to improve their decisions and optimize their actions using improved data, insights and advanced analytics. 

D&AI under Digital & Technology as a capability is increasingly becoming a core enabler for Diageo, identifying and driving capabilities to improve innovation, performance, and differentiation across a wide range of functions and activities globally.

Within D&AI, the Data Science team focuses on identifying, creating, and deploying ML and AI solutions globally, including handling the strategic roadmap that will advance our capability maturity and supply to performance throughout the Diageo enterprise.

The Data Science team consists of guides in advanced analytics, ML, statistics, DevOps, programming and strategic requirement identification and codification. The team works together with scollaboratorsacross the enterprise to ensure that our solutions are well designed, developed, deployed and adopted. We also work with external partners to accelerate our speed to market on programs.

We are seeking a highly motivated and guide Data Science professional who will serve as an evangelist to power data and insights to enable decisions at Diageo.

a)      Financial:

The role will not have budget responsibility but will need to be financially aware of responsibilities and remain budget conscious and compliant.

b)      Market Environment:

This role works closely with collaborators and teams within DA&I, D&T and Regions/Markets

d)      Purpose of Role:

1. Work with the Commercial Analytics team to develop and implement advanced analytics, AI and ML solutions that enhance Sales Planning & effectiveness and commercial performance (from Distributor to Retailer to Consumer)

2. Partner with Sales and Commercial collaborators to translate business challenges (distribution gaps, promotional ROI, outlet analytics, pricing & trade planning, salesforce productivity) into structured analytical problems.

3. Develop predictive and prescriptive models to drive smarter decision-making across:

o   Sales Forecasting

o   Outlet prioritisation & segmentation

o   Shelf & Product Assortment Analytics

o   Trade Promotion planning

o   Revenue growth & pricing strategies

o   Commercial KPI performance tracking

4. Communicate insights through compelling visualisations, storytelling, and clear business recommendations to drive measurable impact.

e)      Top 5-8 Accountabilities

1. Leverage structured and unstructured datasets (sales, distribution, promotional, outlet-level, secondary sales, digital signals) to generate actionable insights.

2. Build scalable analytics products & solutions to track commercial KPIs (elasticity, promo effectiveness, trade ROI, salesforce productivity).

3. Partner with Sales Excellence and RGM teams to evaluate trade spend effectiveness and pricing strategies using econometric studies and experimentation.

4. Translate ambiguous commercial challenges into structured hypotheses and testable analytical frameworks.

5. Ensure solutions are productionised with best in class MLOps frameworks and governance standards.

6. Bring in Emerging AI/GenAI/Decision Intelligence capabilities and find opportunities to embed them in commercial workflows (e.g., smart recommendations, sales assistant copilots).

f)        Qualifications and Experience Required

1. 3–7 years of relevant experience in Data Science, Machine Learning with focus on Commercial Analytics, or Sales Analytics.

2.  Strong experience in:

Predictive modelling (classification, regression, uplift modelling)Time-series forecasting, Clustering & segmentation, Optimisation (linear programming, route optimisation, trade spend optimisation), Causal inference & experimentation (A/B testing, quasi-experimental methods)

3. Hands-on experience in Python, PySpark, SQL, Databricks, Azure (or similar cloud platforms).

4.  Experience working with large-scale commercial datasets (POS, distributor data, outlet-level data).

5. Understanding of Revenue Growth Management principles and sales execution KPIs is strongly preferred.

6. Familiarity with LLM/GenAI applications in commercial analytics is desirable.

7. Experience with CI/CD, MLOps, and model deployment standard methodologies.

8. Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to influence senior commercial partners.

9. Demonstrated ability to drive projects from problem definition through deployment and adoption.

10. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field.
