Specialist, Client Development (IP Litigation)

San Francisco Full time

Join Goodwin’s Global Operations Team, and make a real impact on a global scale. At Goodwin, we work with some of the world’s most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, and where they converge. As part of the Global Operations Team – all business professionals at the firm – you’ll collaborate with colleagues from varied backgrounds and experiences, fostering an environment where cross-functional learning, networking, and collaboration are at the core of what we do.

Here, we’re not just supporting a law firm; we’re partnering with attorneys and clients to deliver cutting-edge solutions in high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions. Our commitment to integrity, ingenuity, agility, and ambition drives us, and we’re proud to have been recognised as the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer.

This is your opportunity to grow professionally in a dynamic, global environment, surrounded by forward-thinking peers.

We are seeking a Client Development Specialist to support Goodwin’s IP Litigation practice. In this role, you will be a true partner to the Litigation Client Development Team, spearheading content creation and collaborating with IP Litigation practice leaders and industry vertical teams on go-to-market strategies. Operating at the intersection of intellectual property disputes and Goodwin’s core industries, your efforts will help enhance our brand positioning, strengthen industry immersion, and drive the development of both existing and new client relationships.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop strategic, industry-aligned content for pitches, RFPs, and other marketing collateral supporting IP Litigation opportunities and client meetings. Ensure practice group and industry descriptions, web content, representative matters, case studies, trial summaries, and cross-forum experience (e.g., federal courts, ITC, PTAB, appellate) are compelling, accurate, and up-to-date.

  • Conduct in-depth research and competitive analysis across IP-driven sectors and client segments to provide strategic insights that strengthen business development initiatives and enhance industry immersion efforts.

  • Monitor and analyze activity across key IP Litigation clients and prospects. Evaluate the effectiveness of business development initiatives and recommend strategies to enhance engagement, cross-selling, and institutional client relationships.

  • Manage contacts and mailing lists in Microsoft Dynamics, leveraging the firm’s CRM tools to prepare relationship-mapping reports and identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships and cultivate prospective ones.

  • Support planning and execution of IP Litigation-focused client events, sponsorships, industry conferences, and roundtables by assisting attorneys with identifying strategic engagement opportunities, coordinating logistics, tracking participation, and conducting post-event research.

  • Work with the firm’s Awards & Rankings team to create targeted, strategic submissions for IP Litigation and attorney rankings, including Chambers, Legal 500, and other industry- and litigation-specific recognitions.

  • Support thought leadership campaigns focused on IP litigation trends and industry developments, including project management and mining campaign data for business development opportunities.

Who You Are:

  • 4+ years of experience in marketing or professional services business development, ideally within a law firm, professional services organization, or the technology, investor, or venture capital sectors.

  • Minimum BA, BS or equivalent.

  • Able to interact with partners, key clients, colleagues and service providers. Highly professional presentation.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-directed and able to manage multiple projects in a matrixed, fast-paced environment is a must.

  • Ability to effect change and motivate a diverse group of partners.

  • Flexibility, willingness and ability to work with a wide variety of people and projects in a collective and collaborative manner.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong analytical skills.
