SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Specialist, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technical and business-facing role accountable for advancing the adoption, delivery, and effective use of AI across SaskEnergy to create measurable business value.  In collaboration with business units, Digital/IT, cybersecurity, and governance teams, the position identifies and prioritizes AI use cases; develops and pilots fit for purpose solutions; and supports workforce readiness through structured training, coaching, and standardized enablement materials.

Position Details

  • Non-union - This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI solutions, including chatbots (RAG), AI agents, and AI-embedded workflows.

  • Provide technical leadership on modern AI solution patterns, including agent skills, tool calling, model context protocols (MCP), prompt design, grounding, orchestration, and tracing.

  • Partner with software developers and technical teams to incorporate AI capabilities into integrations, automations, custom applications, and enterprise workflows.

  • Coordinate solution lifecycle activities, including requirements, prototyping, validation, testing, release, monitoring, support, and controlled updates.

  • Define and apply AI integration patterns aligned to enterprise standards across cloud and application environments.

  • Develop solutions using both low-code/no-code and pro-code approaches, selecting the appropriate pattern for the use case.

  • Evaluate AI platforms, tools, vendors, and frameworks for fit within SaskEnergy’s technology environment and long-term strategy.

  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and support delivery of enterprise AI use cases aligned with business value and organizational priorities.

  • Establish and mature processes and controls to meet governance, assurance, and ethical AI requirements.

  • Lead or support AI enablement activities such as workshops, demonstrations, training sessions, playbooks, and role-based learning.

  • Provide guidance to end users adopting generative AI tools (Microsoft 365 Copilot, etc.).

  • Manage external AI partnerships, including vendor selection/management, program delivery support, and translation of AI concepts for non-technical audiences.

  • Build and scale an AI Champions network to promote AI literacy and best practices across business units.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • Eight (8) years of applicable experience, including progressively responsible experience in AI/ML adoption, AI/data product management, or implementation of enterprise AI-enabled solutions.

  • Strong hands-on experience with generative AI and large language model platforms, and practical experience developing business-ready AI solutions.

  • Experience designing and implementing AI solutions such as chatbots, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, and AI-embedded workflows.

  • Proficiency in software development using Python and/or TypeScript, and experience working in cloud environments, preferably Azure, including services that support AI solution delivery.

  • Strong understanding of modern AI solution patterns and concepts, including prompt design, grounding, tool calling, orchestration, and agent-based workflows, and related protocols.

  • Working knowledge of enterprise integration and solution delivery practices, including APIs, identity and access, data flows, testing, release management, monitoring, documentation and support.

  • Knowledge of responsible AI considerations, including privacy, security, risk, compliance, and governance.

  • Experience delivering training, coaching, workshops, or other enablement activities for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Copilot and real-world business use cases.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, prioritization, and adaptability skills, with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Information

  • Occasional travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters, is required.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
