Special Security Technician – Leidos

Location: Langley AFB, VA

Leidos is seeking a highly qualified Special Security Technician to join our team at Langley AFB, VA. The selected candidate will serve as a security specialist, providing comprehensive personnel, physical, and unit security support for the 363 ISRW, 363 ISRG, and subordinate units at the Air Force Targeting Center.

This role delivers centralized security oversight, mission assurance, and program support for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Collateral Classified Information. The technician ensures the protection of national defense information and materials against unauthorized disclosure, espionage, and sabotage, while guaranteeing that access to program information aligns with national security interests. The position also provides daily operational guidance, policy interpretation, and strategic planning across all security disciplines.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Personnel Security

  • Initiates and reviews personnel security investigations in accordance with directives.
  • Screens and verifies clearance requests, ensuring all required documentation is complete prior to processing.
  • Analyzes requests to validate access requirements.
  • Evaluates position sensitivity, clearance level, and special access needs to determine investigation type.
  • Coordinates with appropriate investigative agencies and maintains clearance records.
  • Prioritizes and processes investigation requests and related correspondence.
  • Ensures accuracy of records in DISS or successor systems.
  • Conducts security reviews of NIPR/SIPR/JWICS/SAP system account requests.
  • Performs PKI security reviews and updates.
  • Reviews clearance requests for derogatory or adverse information; initiates correspondence to authorities when misrepresentation or falsification is identified.

Physical Security

  • Conducts evaluations and assessments of security operations; recommends and coordinates corrective actions.
  • Manages the security deviation program, documenting deficiencies, monitoring corrective actions, and coordinating with higher headquarters.
  • Oversees construction and projects involving restricted areas, ensuring contractor compliance with physical security requirements.
  • Assists with maintenance of IDS/ACS systems and physical locks for unit facilities.
  • Ensures quarterly updates of facility FFC, TEMPEST, and baselines are submitted as required.
  • Reviews and updates Emergency Action Plans to maximize security through risk management.
  • Provides oversight and documentation for SCIFs and open storage facilities, including new construction and operational procedures.

Unit Security

  • Reviews security incidents and recommends corrective actions.
  • Advises on classification and declassification requirements for programs and projects.
  • Manages classification/declassification reviews and processes.
  • Provides technical support for procurement of classified destruction equipment.
  • Oversees required security training programs.
  • Participates in special projects, initiatives, and assignments.
  • Serves as Group AT/FP Officer and OPSEC Officer; attends local working groups and Security Awareness, Training, and Education events.
  • Executes security self-assessment programs and prepares incident reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Current DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance
  • Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree and 6 -10 years of relevant. experience. Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Expertise in information, industrial, personnel, and physical security concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of security training programs, procedures, and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills to develop, evaluate, and improve security programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective professional relationships and foster cooperative working environments.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive information, interface with base security forces, and remain composed in emergencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research and assessments for high-level tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of analytic operations and knowledge management across organizational and IC boundaries.
  • Ability to review analytic products for tradecraft standards, cogent arguments, and analytic rigor.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience executing security self-assessment programs and incident reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Site Security Manager (SSM), Special Security Officer (SSO), or Unit Security Manager (USM).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,650.00 - $118,675.00
