Work Schedule: Mon-Fri. Will have choice of 36 hour shift from 7a-5:30p or a 40 hour shift from 8a-4:30p. Rotate call and holidays.

Specials Technologists working in vascular-interventional radiography assist interventional radiologists with diagnostic angiographic procedures, complex interventional surgical procedures, and therapeutic procedures. Special Procedure technologists must have strong technical, radiologic, and clinical skills. The ability to multi-task is essential. This position requires knowledge of sterile technique and pan scrubbing, plus shares on-call duties with the rest of the Special Procedures Technologists.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

3. Quality & Safety-Exam performance

  • Time out performed prior to procedure start.
  • Assisting surgeon/radiologist with surgery/special procedures.
  • Maintains familiarity with all surgical supplies including guide wires, catheters, stents and balloons.
  • Ensures optimal visualization of anatomy by directing radiographic equipment.
  • Assist staff in room with procedure set-up.
  • Responds to pages in a timely manner.
  • Is accountable to learn new skills and equipment within areas specifications and time frame.
  • Understands the importance of sterility and is able to establish and maintain sterile field on a daily basis.

4. Heightened Focus on Efficiency-Radiology Information System (RIS)/Cerner/Navicare/ Picture Archival Communication System (PACS)/Outlook/ERNIE

  • Ensures Powerchart is available to the performing physician prior to start of case.
  • Knowledge of order entry and ability to order correct exams and proper indications.
  • Matches digital images to Radiology Information System (RIS) orders, for viewing in Picture Archival Communication System (PACS).
  • Starts and completes exams performed.
  • Consistently uses Exam Management.
  • Document Medications and Allergies.
  • Consistently uses Powerscribe.

5. Quality & Safety-QA

  • Assists in maintaining appropriate par levels of supplies and communicates to appropriate ordering personnel.
  • Functions under the direction and immediate supervision of the Interventional/vascular physicians.
  • Provides direct, safe, competent and quality patient care in the Interventional Radiology department.
  • Patient identification accurately verified.
  • Properly identify anatomical orientation on all films.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment at the conclusion of each case.

6. Partnerships & Collaboration-Department teamwork

  • Maintains positive and respectful relationship with team members.
  • Understands and supports the direction and workflow of the department.
  • Available at the start of scheduled shift and appropriately manages completion of shift.
  • Relieves coworkers during cases as needed.
  • Performs job duties as assigned.
  • Maintains communication/coordination w/pertinent areas.
  • Maintains awareness of ongoing procedures and assists co-workers in unassigned areas when available.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduated from an approved American Medical Association (AMA) school of Radiologic Technology required.


Experience

If the specialty is not listed, no prior experience is required:

  • Experience Required:
    • MJE Radiology-Surgical: 1 year experience in Radiology required.
  • Experience Preferred:
    • NMH Radiology-Surgical: 1 year experience in Radiology preferred.


License/Certifications

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) registered or board eligible is required.
  • Current Medical Radiographer (RAD.NE or RAD.IA) license for work state required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirements.

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, co-workers and the public.
