The Special Credit Portfolio Manager 3 independently manages a portfolio of complex criticized loan relationships and provides advanced underwriting, monitoring, and workout support within Special Credits. This role partners closely with Special Credit Asset Managers to structure, negotiate, and document higher-risk credit actions, while also providing technical leadership and guidance to junior-level PMs. Demonstrates strong credit judgment, independently presents complex recommendations to Credit Officers, and contributes to portfolio-level risk mitigation strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently underwrites and analyzes complex criticized loan relationships, including restructures, forbearances, extensions, renewals, and modifications.
- Serves as a senior technical resource; provides informal guidance, quality review, and coaching on underwriting practices and policy requirements.
- Works as a core member of the Workout Delivery Team with Asset Managers, Credit Officers, Legal, Collateral Specialists, and Relationship Managers.
- Leads the collection and assessment of financial statements, collateral information, legal documentation, and third-party reports to support transaction structuring.
- Independently prepares and presents detailed loan requests and risk assessments to Credit Officers with limited guidance.
- Conducts advanced borrower, industry, and market analyses to identify emerging risks and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitors covenant compliance, collateral performance, and borrower reporting; proposes corrective actions as exceptions arise.
- Supports Asset Managers in negotiating borrower communications, including action plans, conditions, and documentation requirements.
- Identifies deteriorating situations early and contributes to the formulation of problem-loan strategies.
- Reviews and validates legal documentation associated with criticized actions to ensure alignment with approval terms and bank standards.
- Tracks and resolves document exceptions; ensures accurate and timely system updates.
- May lead special projects, process improvements, or portfolio analytics initiatives.
- Secures and safeguards all customer information according to Bank guidelines.
- Participates in civic, community, and industry activities as needed.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- May provide ongoing guidance and task direction to junior-level PMs but does not have full supervisory accountability.
- May serve as a team lead on complex underwriting assignments.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 5+ years of credit analysis, underwriting, or workout experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience underwriting moderately complex to complex criticized or distressed commercial relationships.
- Strong understanding of commercial lending, legal documentation, financial analysis, and regulatory expectations.
- Advanced ability to interpret financial statements, cash-flow performance, and collateral structures.
- Strong ability to present complex analyses and recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving and risk assessment skills.
