SPA Assistant Ecology Surveyor

Location:                     Flexible/Remote work from SPA sites across the region. 
Employment Type:      Short term input only. 

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about contributing to one of the UK’s most ambitious water infrastructure projects? The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) is searching for Assistant Ecology Surveyors to support and enhance our project delivery team. 

What will you be doing as our new Assistant Ecology Surveyor?  

You will be responsible for assisting the survey leads with the undertaking of in the field ecological surveying which may encompass surveying for bats, badgers, ecological clerk of works (ECoW), great crested newts, hazel dormouse, National Vegetation Classification (NVC), ornithology, riparian mammals, river morphology, tree climbing and/or UK Habs and hedgerow surveys.

You will collaborate with other teams across the Anglian Water (AW) framework to support the business to meet its needs in bringing environmental and social prosperity to the region through our commitment to love every drop.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Support the survey leads where required with pre survey organisation and co-ordination including but not limited to TSPA and GoSmart creation, hotel and hire car bookings
  • Attend AW inductions including Passport to Work and pre-site briefings prior to undertaking any site work
  • Assist the survey leads with the collection and uploading of survey data to field maps whilst undertaking surveys

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours: 

This job might be for you if you have:  

  • A qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant environment or technical discipline.
  • Experience of working within teams focusing on Habitat and BNG deliverables or other technical functions (e.g. bats, ornithology, and/or dormouse).
  • Undergone training and holds valid certification for working in water
  • Undergone training and holds valid certification for first aid
  • Excellent health and safety awareness.
  • Document production abilities using various software inc. excel, word, GIS, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organisational skill and attention to detail
