While the role sits firmly within Technology, it operates in close partnership with Global Markets business leaders, traders, Product Owners, and functional stakeholders, acting as a trusted architectural advisor and delivery partner. The architect ensures business problems are clearly defined, economically justified, and solved through pragmatic, secure, and scalable technology solutions.
This role shapes the end-to-end journey from business problem definition through architecture, investment rationale, and delivery alignment. The role influences delivery outcomes in conjunction with peer technology leadership by setting architectural direction, guiding trade-offs, and ensuring solutions are implemented in line with the target state.
Key Responsibilities:

- Partner with Global Markets business stakeholders and Product Owners to ensure that technology initiatives are grounded in business outcomes and regulatory realities.
- Own architectural decisions from concept through delivery, partnering with engineering leads and delivery owners to ensure solutions are implemented in line with the intended design and adjusted deliberately when trade-offs are required.
Strategic Application and Process Rationalization
- Drive the strategic rationalization of applications, platforms, and business processes across the securities domain to reduce duplication, complexity, and long-term cost.
- Assess legacy and overlapping capabilities and define target state simplification strategies aligned with business priorities and regulatory constraints.
- Ensure rationalization initiatives are integrated into delivery plans and investment decisions rather than treated as standalone exercises.
Tactical Business Solutions
- Work with Global Markets leaders and support functions to develop solutions to day-to-day challenges
- Solve complex, cross-functional gaps between business line and support function needs by designing and implementing scalable technology solutions, including:
- Addressing regulatory and internal risk, capital and liquidity calculation challenges
- Optimizing collateral usage and funding efficiency across trading and treasury activities
- Identifying and automating manual processes across operations, risk, treasury and finance
- Bridging integration gaps between new products and existing trading platforms to ensure seamless execution and minimize unexpected breaks
- Developing tactical data and workflow solutions to mitigate limitations in third-party vendor systems
Business Case Development and Economic Analysis
- Develop and support business plans and investment cases that articulate total cost of ownership, return on investment, and risk trade offs.
- Quantify the economic impact of architectural decisions, including cost reduction, scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency benefits.
- Partner with Finance and business leaders to ensure architectural recommendations are commercially sound and outcome driven.
Artificial Intelligence and Automation Enablement
- Identify and architect opportunities to drive efficiency through the use of artificial intelligence and automation across data processing, operational workflows, controls, and reporting.
- Work with AI and Data Platform Teams to ensure AI enabled solutions are designed with appropriate governance, transparency, and control considerations from inception.
- Translate AI opportunities into concrete use cases, architectural patterns, and delivery plans that produce measurable business value.
Solution and Application Architecture
- Design end-to-end solution architectures spanning applications, data, integration, cloud infrastructure, and security.
- Define architectural patterns for trading platforms, market and reference data, risk, counterparty and instrument mastering, and post trade processing.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, cloud operating models, resiliency expectations, and security requirements.
Data, Integration, and Platform Design
- Define architectures for market data, reference data, instrument, and counterparty domains, ensuring data quality, lineage, and regulatory traceability.
- Establish API, messaging, and event driven integration patterns to support real time and batch securities use cases.
- Collaborate with Data Architecture teams on domain models, analytics enablement, and data governance.
Risk, Security, and Regulatory Alignment
- Embed risk, control, resiliency, and auditability requirements directly into solution designs.
- Ensure technology solutions meet regulatory and compliance expectations applicable to securities businesses without compromising delivery effectiveness.
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Audit stakeholders to ensure architectural decisions are defensible and scalable.
Stakeholder Engagement and Delivery Enablement
- Act as the primary architectural interface between Technology teams and Global Markets business stakeholders.
- Lead architecture reviews, design workshops, and governance forums.
- Provide ongoing architectural guidance through delivery to ensure solutions achieve intended outcomes and are operationally sustainable.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Strong experience Global Markets products, , including exposure to trading, risk, operations, data, or regulatory reporting.
- Proven ability to translate complex business problems into executable technology architectures and delivery outcomes.
- Experience with application rationalization, platform modernization, or large scale transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience developing business cases incorporating total cost of ownership and return on investment.
- Strong communication skills with executive, business, and engineering audiences.
