Job Summary
Synechron seeks a seasoned Solution Architect specializing in payment acquiring and issuing systems to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level payment solutions. The role involves defining technical architecture, evaluating existing systems, and driving integration with third-party payment providers while ensuring security, compliance, and performance. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and external partners to shape scalable, reliable, and secure payment platforms aligned with organizational strategies.

Software Requirements

  • Required:

    • Extensive experience with payment processing systems, including acquiring and issuing platforms.

    • Strong knowledge of payment gateways, processing, and settlement, with experience in designing transaction flows.

    • Hands-on experience with API design, RESTful services, and third-party system integrations involving PCI DSS standards.

    • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and design principles.

    • Experience working with security standards and conducting risk assessments related to payment systems.

  • Preferred:

    • Experience with industry-standard middleware and messaging systems such as Kafka or similar.

    • Knowledge of cloud deployment platforms, especially AWS or Azure, supporting payment processing.

    • Certifications related to payment systems, security (e.g., PCI DSS), or cloud architecture.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate high-level architecture and detailed design for payment acquiring and issuing solutions, ensuring they meet business and regulatory requirements.

  • Analyze existing systems and identify opportunities for optimization, integration, and modernization.

  • Lead technical discussions with stakeholders, including product management, development teams, and external vendors, to drive solution alignment.

  • Provide guidance on best practices in card payment processing, security, and system scalability.

  • Define technical standards, governance frameworks, and reference architectures for payment platforms.

  • Oversee the implementation of secure, scalable, and highly available payment workflows across multiple environments.

  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to embed security controls, conduct assessments, and document risk mitigation strategies.

  • Foster an agile, quality-focused culture through standards, documentation, and mentorship.

Technical Skills (By Category)

  • Programming & System Design:
    Required: Strong knowledge of system architecture design, API specifications, and integration patterns for payment systems.
    Preferred: Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).

  • Databases/Data Management:
    Familiarity with relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2, and NoSQL databases as needed for transaction data.

  • Cloud Technologies:
    Proficiency in cloud deployment using AWS, Azure, or GCP, supporting secure and scalable payment infrastructure.

  • Middleware & Messaging:
    Expertise with messaging systems (Kafka, MQ), API gateways, and integration middleware supporting high-throughput transaction processing.

  • Security & Compliance:
    Deep understanding of PCI DSS, secure payment data handling, authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT), and data privacy standards.

  • Tools & Methodologies:
    Enterprise architecture tools, SaaS-based security assessment platforms, agile and DevOps practices.

Experience Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in payment system architecture, with proven success in acquiring and issuing platforms.

  • Extensive experience designing secure, scalable, and compliant payment transaction systems.

  • Deep knowledge of payment processing standards, middleware, and API security protocols.

  • Prior leadership in enterprise system integration, vendor management, and cross-functional team collaboration.

  • Industry experience in banking, financial services, or payments preferred.

  • Alternative pathways include senior roles in large-scale transaction processing or middleware platform architecture.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Create and refine architectural frameworks for payment acquiring and issuing systems.

  • Lead design discussions related to transaction flows, API integrations, and security protocols.

  • Collaborate with product teams, security, and compliance units to ensure robust platform design.

  • Oversee and support implementation, conduct code reviews, and ensure standards adherence.

  • Evaluate new technologies and vendor solutions to optimize performance and security.

  • Drive operational excellence by establishing governance, standards, and best practices.

  • Act as escalation point for complex design, integration, or security issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.

  • Relevant certifications such as PCI DSS, cloud architecture, or payment security certifications are preferred.

  • Proven expertise in card payment systems architecture, integration, and compliance standards.

  • Extensive experience supporting large-scale, secure payment transaction environments.
