POSITION OVERVIEW
BDC is the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs. As a Solution Architect – Infrastructure, you play a key role in designing and evolving the cloud and hybrid technology platforms that support BDC’s internal digital ecosystem.
You lead end‑to‑end solution architectures for critical initiatives, working closely with other architects and delivery teams, while aligning with BDC’s target architecture and technology standards. Your work directly supports the bank’s ability to serve entrepreneurs across Canada, in an inclusive environment where you can be yourself at work.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Design and evolve complex hybrid, multi‑cloud, and cloud‑native architectures within a regulated banking environment.
Ensure solution architectures align with BDC’s enterprise architecture, security governance, and long‑term technology roadmap.
Support multiple initiatives simultaneously, collaborating with architects, project managers, SMEs, and external vendors.
Translate complex technical architectures into clear, structured content for business and executive stakeholders.
Balance strategic architectural leadership with hands‑on involvement in solution delivery and integration.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant education.
Experience
7+ years of experience in solution architecture, system architecture, or infrastructure / operating systems engineering.
3+ years of hands‑on experience as a Solution Architect leading end‑to‑end design, delivery, and management of hybrid cloud solutions.
Proven experience designing and managing cloud architectures in enterprise environments.
Experience with hybrid cloud deployments, including on‑premises to cloud migration roadmaps.
Experience designing, architecting, and implementing distributed, multi‑regional systems.
Experience integrating solutions across SaaS, cloud‑native platforms, and outsourced service providers, including data flows.
Technical Skills
Hybrid, multi‑cloud, and cloud‑native architecture design and deployment.
Cloud platforms: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Hybrid cloud platforms: VMware Cloud Foundation, VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC on AWS).
Design of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
Cloud security governance and compliance for hybrid cloud platforms.
Contemporary engineering practices: cloud computing, microservices, DevOps.
Network infrastructure and network security.
Use of reference architectures, approved standards, and structured architecture practices.
Architecture & Delivery
Development and maintenance of enterprise architecture artifacts, including detailed technical solution designs.
Ability to analyze and master existing solution architectures to ensure consistency and sustainability.
Governance and support of project delivery, including roadmap alignment, deliverable reviews, and participation in key project events.
Ability to lead solution design across multiple technology vendors and platforms.
Communication & Leadership
Ability to translate technical concepts into executive‑level presentations and discussions.
Strong communication, relationship management, and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to balance strategic architectural vision with hands‑on execution.
Fluency in English and French (collaboration with teams across Canada).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with observability and performance monitoring tools, including:

Splunk
Enterprise architecture certifications, such as:
TOGAF
ArchiMate
Cloud certifications, such as:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Experience evaluating and recommending emerging cloud and infrastructure technologies.
