Team Mercury is DaVita’s dedicated Digital Experience product team. We are responsible for the strategy, design, and engineering of DaVita’s entire public-facing digital ecosystem—including DaVita.com. We are currently leading a massive modernization initiative ("Project Unify") to migrate our enterprise web properties to a headless WordPress VIP (WPVIP) architecture.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer to help architect and build the next generation of DaVita’s digital platforms. Unlike a traditional front-end role, this position requires deep expertise in the "middle layer" of our stack. You will build high-performance React interfaces while simultaneously engineering the Node.js middleware and security layers required to interface with Fuse (our internal API gateway) and other complex enterprise services.
You will partner closely with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, and Backend Engineers to deliver scalable, accessible, and maintainable user experiences that serve millions of patients, caregivers, and physicians annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Full Stack Feature Development: Build end-to-end features using TypeScript, Node.js, and PHP. Design flexible front-end components while managing the server-side logic required to fetch, aggregate, and cache data.
- Enterprise API Integration (Fuse): Architect secure integrations between our public-facing applications and Fuse (DaVita’s internal middleware/ESB). You will handle complex authentication flows, proxy requests through GCP, and ensure secure data transmission for PHI/PII.
- Headless CMS Architecture: Develop robust content models and integrations for WordPress VIP (WPVIP), ensuring content editors have a seamless experience while delivering high-performance JSON data to our front end.
- Performance & Security: optimize application performance (Core Web Vitals) and implement security best practices (OWASP) for our node-based middleware and client-side code.
- Database Support: Perform basic data management tasks, in Microsoft SQL Server and Google Cloud SQL, while collaborating with the core database team for complex architectural needs.
- Technical Leadership: Contribute to architectural decisions regarding state management, server-side rendering (SSR/ISR) strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaboration: Partner with designers to implement high-fidelity UIs from Figma and collaborate with core IT teams to resolve connectivity or firewall issues related to internal APIs.
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Advanced TypeScript/JavaScript: Mastery of modern ES6+ syntax, asynchronous programming, and type safety on both client and server.
- React Ecosystem: Deep understanding of React Server Components, hooks, and hydration strategies.
- Node.js Middleware: Experience building BFF (Backend for Frontend) layers or proxy servers to handle API orchestration, token management, and data transformation before it reaches the client.
- API Integration: Proven experience integrating with complex REST/SOAP APIs, Enterprise Service Buses (ESB), or middleware layers (experience with Fuse, or similar enterprise gateways is a major plus).
- Headless CMS: Experience architecting sites using headless platforms like WordPress VIP or similar.
- DevOps & Tools: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins), version control (Git), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- SDLC & Agile Process: Familiarity with the Agile Scrum methodology and comfortability navigating the full software development lifecycle. This includes using Jira for task management, Bitbucket or Git for collaborative version control, and Confluence to document architectural decisions and maintain team knowledge.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Fuse or similar healthcare interoperability standards.
- Knowledge of Salesforce Marketing Cloud integrations.
- Familiarity with Redis or other caching layers for high-traffic applications.
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance and secure coding practices for healthcare.
- Experience working within a regulated industry.
Why Join Us?
- Impact: Work on high-visibility platforms used by millions of visitors to navigate their kidney care journey.
- Modern Stack: We aren't maintaining legacy monoliths; we are actively building a modern, composable web architecture.
- Culture: Join a thoughtful, collaborative team that values "Lab Collabs" (innovation time) and work-life balance.
