Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Software Product Owner – Level 5 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.
*Please be aware that this position is contingent upon capturing program award(s) and obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding. Furthermore, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
In this role, the Software Product Owner – Level 5 will work in tandem with a scrum team of approximately 8 software engineers and will be responsible for defining the product vision and managing the product backlog, ensuring that all features align with business objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to prioritize tasks and facilitate the timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. Additionally, you will incorporate user feedback to continuously refine the product roadmap and drive innovation in response to evolving customer needs. Software development is done within the Agile paradigm using the Atlassian tool suite.
You will have experience in software engineering, development across the full software life cycle, and experience working with DevSecOps processes and cloud platforms. You will design, develop, document, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain applications software for Ground Segment Functions for a system, supporting a program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission. You will also have strong verbal and written communication skills and are expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment. You should be highly self-motivated, reporting information to leads and the customer. You are expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, find unique solutions, and work in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment that continues to grow.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Design, build, and implement scalable, secure mission capabilities and features on Linux/Unix.
-Drive software development on Linux/Unix using TypeScript, Angular, Node.js, React, and/or Vue.
-Lead a scrum team of approximately 8 engineers, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and fostering a culture of code quality, test driven development, and continuous learning.
-Own and prioritize a backlog, craft user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
-Drive sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, and reviews while maintaining alignment with product vision and mission goals.
-Conduct demos and briefings for customers and senior leadership.
-Translate feedback into actionable service enhancements.
-Ensure seamless integration of capabilities, epics, and features with ground satellite software solutions.
-Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards, Confluence knowledge bases, eazyBI reports, and custom JQL queries.
-Execute program tasking and software development using Agile methodologies and cloud platforms.
-Drive development and execution of features for the satellite ground systems domain with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models.
Basic Qualifications for Software Product Owner - Level 5:
-16+ years of software development experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree OR
-Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of software development experience OR
-Master's degree with 10+ years of software development experience OR
-PhD with 8+ years of software development experience
-Proven ability as a Lead Software Engineer, having built front-end applications with at least two of the following technologies: Typescript, Angular, Node.js, React, or Vue while guiding teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
-Demonstrated leadership in architecting and developing applications on Linux/Unix operating systems, driving best practices and innovation across projects
-Extensive experience in applying Agile methodologies and Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket with a record of coaching teams to adopt and optimize these practices
-Exceptional skills in defining and articulating a clear product vision and strategic goals for Agile teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical excellence
-A proven track record of leading the prioritization and management of a product backlog, including the development of user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria that drive iterative improvements
-Adept at spearheading stakeholder demos and reviews, proactively integrating iterative feedback into the development process to continually refine product functionality
-Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Top Secret clearance and active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
Preferred Qualifications for Software Product Owner - Level 5:
-Experience guiding teams in the use of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes with additional exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
-Skilled in interpreting CAMEO/MBSE models to inform strategic systems engineering decisions
-Previous leadership experience in developing Command and Control software for Satellite Ground Systems
-Experience working within a DevOps pipeline
-Active DOD Top Secret clearance and active SCI access at time of application and prior to start date

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
