Software Engineering Principal

Summary

The Software Engineering Principal is a vital part of our business, serving as one of our most senior consultants within our North American leadership team. It requires someone who is not only an expert in technology, but who also can build relationships with clients, become a trusted advisor, and solve business problems.

In summary there are 3 core aspects of the role:

  • Technical Delivery & Leadership: Experience architecting and building large-scale custom software solutions for multi-billion dollar businesses in North America. An advocate for modern software practices across languages and tools, cloud services and data related solutions. A background in leading multiple software development teams building custom solutions. An advocate for modern software and practices across languages and tools, with an opinion on how AI can be used in the process.

  • Client Engagement: Experienced in presales, shaping engagements, and building strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Develop pitches and solutions for prospective customers. Experienced in shaping engagements, being the first on the ground dealing with early stage ambiguity, and then as engagements growth being instrumental in forming teams, and building relationships with the customer.

  • Collaboration & Problem-Solving: An experienced consultant, having led multiple client facing engagements, acting as a trusted technical advisor to the customer.  Skilled in leading teams, with a flexible attitude in tackling a range of business problems, and breaking down complex problems into solutions. Highly collaborative with other team members and works in a visible manner.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with the ability to translate business problems to technical solutions, design technical architecture
  • Hands to Keyboard experience, preferably in Java or Python, with the desire to learn other technologies and languages as needed
  • Experience in the consulting or professional services industry, delivering results to end clients, and participating in the pursuit & pre-sales process 
  • Experience using AI in the Software Development Life Cycle to help generate & review code, all while keeping a human in the loop

North America

Equal Experts originated in the UK in 2007, which is still the largest business unit with over 2000 active consultants.  Our annual global revenue is over $350M.  Equal Experts North America has been running in full operational mode since 2019 and consists of approximately 70 billable consultants, 46 of which are in North America, with the remainder working from one of our other business units, mostly the UK.  Our local annual revenue for 2024 - 2025 was $35M.   Given our history and size, we are still very much in an early growth stage and as such this role will play a crucial part in our future growth and strategy. 

Location: New York City
Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 2 days per week in Manhattan office
Travel: Up to 20% across North America

The base salary range is $225,000-275,000. You will also be eligible to participate in our profit-sharing program and receive a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
