The Role

We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Software Engineer to join our team. You will work closely with UX Designers, UX Researchers, Product Managers, Program Managers, and UX Engineers on iterative cycles of design, rapid prototyping, and user research.

The core of your work will involve designing and developing stable but experimental front-ends for user-facing products, bringing a human-centered approach to brilliant research and technology. We are looking for an engineer who can take on new problems, including significant focus on prompt engineering to build innovative, AI-driven solutions, and push the boundaries of user interaction.

You thrive on tackling ambiguous technical challenges and translating early-stage AI concepts into effective, efficient, and usable software solutions.

Key responsibilities:

• Front-End Solution Delivery: Work closely with UX Designers, Researchers, PMs, and UXEs to implement versatile front-end solutions to tackle tough problems and answer big questions.
• AI-Driven Development: Engage in prompt engineering to create innovative and intelligent AI-driven user experiences and design and develop dynamic workflows and collaborative tools tailored to specific user needs.
• Prototyping & Iteration: Design, develop, test, and iterate on stable but experimental front-end code for new user-facing features, taking a human-centered approach to research and technology.
• Operational Excellence: Take ownership of the front-end implementation, including bug fixes and performance enhancements, to ensure a polished final product.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner effectively and collaboratively with designers, researchers, and engineers across different teams to gather requirements and ensure successful project delivery in nascent product areas.

About You

In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

• Significant professional software development experience in Javascript and 2 or more other programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, Python, Go).
• Extensive experience with front-end technologies and modern web application development with modern web libraries and frameworks (e.g., Angular, Svelte, React).
• Experience building prototypes for AI/ML systems, AI-native development tool-chains, and workflows.
• Understanding of the latest methods and tools and AI technologies, with a strong POV on building usable and innovative UIs, and the ability to deliver comprehensive prototypes.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

• Highly proficient in web technologies such as JS/ES6, HTML5, CSS, REST, mobile web, mobile applications etc.
• Strong sense of UI design and attuned to the fundamentals of user experience, including accessibility.
• Demonstrable experience with Google Cloud or similar cloud platforms.
• Ability to work effectively across different time zones and communicate clearly with a distributed team.
• A proven track record of taking high-level direction and independently driving the implementation of complex features.
